Today's MLB Picks
A common theme this year will be the Dodgers/Over combination as they should win plenty of ball games and put up plenty of runs in the process. While they are just 1-1 O/U this year, they managed 16 runs in two games, with 24 hits and 15 walks. They can get on base in a plethora of ways. Opposing them here is Miles Mikolas who was hit hard in Spring Training by lesser lineups. Is he going to flip the switch? I don't believe so. For the Dodgers, Glasnow showed issues with command, walking 4 Padres in his debut, and with the Cards desperate to get off to a good start, there should be plenty of runs scored in the opener at Dodger Stadium.

It's an easy task today for the Miami lefty vs. a Pittsburgh lineup that projects as one of the worst in baseball. It's also a total that sits in no-man's land at 14.5. If Luzardo can come out in the fifth inning, completing 15 outs will be looking good in a game with the lowest total on the board today. There were also reports that Luzardo is working on efficiency this year as he looks to get deeper into games. Sandy Alcantara is done for the year so there is an urgency for it. In his first start of the year in 2022, Luzardo went 15 outs on 76 pitches. THE BAT is projecting 15.9 outs and some books are at -155.

Before injuries intervened, this would have been an Opening Day showdown between Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander. Instead, we get Nestor Cortes, who gave up 17 hits and nine earned runs in preseason action, against Framber Valdez, who was roughed up by the St. Louis Cardinals in a March 17 start (four runs over four innings). Two loaded lineups are squaring off, and the drama of the New York Yankees' first regular season game with Juan Soto alongside Aaron Judge at the top of the order. The Houston Astros’ bats were lethal last year, as Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker piled up 163 hits apiece, and they ended up with 827 runs – third-most in the American League.

Nathan Eovaldi is due for some regression this season. He pitched above and beyond last year, helping the Texas Rangers secure their World Series title. However, he did walk 47 batters, which was the second-highest BB mark of his career, and in Spring Training this year, he struggled at times with mechanics walking five batters over his last two appearances. The Cubs ranked in the top half of the league in team strikeouts per game, and while some pieces are different, the patient hitting approach should remain. Let's look for Eovaldi to be erratic and the Cubs to stay disciplined in their game plan.
