The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup is marching towards its final, and plenty of giants have fallen even before the quarterfinal round.
While they may not be the Dream Team, the United States have put together another impressive, albeit young, group with the goal of reestablishing its dominance in the international basketball hierarchy after failing to medal back in 2019. But the road hasn't been spotless.
It’s still no surprise the FIBA Basketball World Cup odds have Team USA as the betting favorite to bounce back and win its sixth title — and as well, a list of US players fully occupy the top of the FIBA World Cup MVP odds board — but who will challenge the Americans?

FIBA World Cup 2023 favorites
USA (-167 to -175)
This is not your dad’s Team USA, as the program focuses on a youth movement with its "A-Team" waiting for Paris.
The average age of the team is just 24.6 years old and it will be up to Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr to mold this young group into a winner after the team lost to France in 2019's quarterfinals.
Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has been a standout, but on a team this talented and deep, anyone can kill you.
Team USA had stomped all over the competition through the first week of the tournament before a stunning 110-104 loss vs. Lithuania. They responded to that viral L by plastering Italy 100-63 on Tuesday, advancing confidently to the semis against Germany.
Canada (+240 to +340)
Team Canada had a very difficult assignment after losing to Brazil and they rose to the occasion with an 88-85 victory over Spain, the reigning champions. It effectively sent the Spanish squad home while ensuring the Canadians would continue on as one of the tournament's heaviest hitters. They also clinched an Olympic berth!
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Dillon Brooks played out of their minds as Canada outscored Spain 27-12 in the final frame to capture a thrilling come-from-behind win, stunning the Spaniards in the process. SGA scored 30 in his 37 minutes on 7 of 12 shooting while Brooks added 22 of his own points while going a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
Canada got another strong team effort, toppling Luka Doncic and Slovenia with a decisive second half in a 100-89 quarterfinal victory. Next up is Serbia with a finals berth at stake.

Understanding basketball odds
Sportsbooks have already posted FIBA World Cup futures, which are constantly adjusted as teams win and lose games — if injuries arise.
Basketball futures odds will usually look like this:
- Canada +1,600
This means that on a $100 bet, you'll stand to win $1,600 if Canada win the gold medal. If there is a particularly dominant nation, you might see that a team has a minus sign (-) ahead of its odds.
- USA -150
This means that if you bet on the USA, you would have need to bet $150 to profit $100 if the Americans win the championship.
Above we have posted the American odds for the FIBA World Cup. However, these are easy to convert to decimal odds or fractional odds with our odds converter tool.
