My analysis
The stakes for the 9-7-1 Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday all hinge on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers' same-day matchup against the Montreal Alouettes. With a win in Montreal, the 10-7 Bombers would clinch first place in the West Division, thus rendering the result of the Roughriders matchup against the Calgary Stampeders meaningless.
However, if the Alouettes sneak out a win (they currently enter as 7.5-point home dogs), a Rider win in front of the Regina faithful would vault Saskatchewan to a first-place finish in the division — something the team hasn't accomplished since 2019.
Regardless of whether the Riders' chances to host a West Final come to fruition, Corey Mace's unit should come out strong out of the gates against a lifeless Calgary team that fell behind 30-9 to Hamilton just a week ago. Saskatchewan should be especially potent on the ground, feasting on a Stampeders run defense that is allowing a league-worst 6.7 yards per attempt.
Calgary has fallen apart at the seams over the second half of the season, going 1-9 SU and 2-8 ATS over its last 10 contests. Dave Dickenson's roster has been especially plagued by poor quarterback play throughout 2024, and last week's starter Matt Shiltz was forced to leave before halftime after suffering a neck injury.
With Calgary forced to return to Jake Maier (19-14 TD/INT ratio) and Logan Bonner (0-5 TD/INT) as their options under center, Saskatchewan should coast to their fifth straight win.
