College World Series odds analysis

2/18/2025: It has been a while since we've seen a true college baseball dynasty, as South Carolina Gamecocks were the last back-to-back College World Series champions in 2010 and 2011, nearly making it three straight when they lost to the Arizona Wildcats in 2012.

The Tennessee Volunteers will look to buck that trend of one-and-done champs and books are largely bullish on their chances to pull it off. The Vols lost a few key pieces to the MLB Draft last summer, with infielder Christian Moore going to the Los Angeles Angels in the first round. Fellow infielders Blake Burke and Billy Amick and outfielder Dylan Dreiling were all off the board by the end of the second. So, to see them still so high is a testament to their program.

Shortstop Dean Curley is the school's best hitting prospect. The 20-year-old sophomore hit .285/.386/.502 with 12 home runs and 10 doubles in 67 games for last year's championship team.

The LSU Tigers, however, are drawing the shortest odds at FanDuel by a hair. LSU was bounced from the 2024 tournament by North Carolina during regionals and will look to bounce back into the top tier in 2025.

Neither team cracked the Top 2 in the latest D1 Baseball Rankings, with the Texas A&M Aggies atop the field after finishing as last year's runners-up while the Virginia Cavaliers are second.

The Aggies have perhaps the most touted college draft prospect in outfielder Jace LaViolette — currently ranked second on MLB Pipeline's draft rankings. He demolished opposing pitchers in 2024, hitting .305/.449/.726 with 29 home runs and 78 RBI in 68 games.

Understanding College World Series futures odds

College World Series futures odds will usually look like this:

  • Vanderbilt +235

This means that on a $100 bet, you'll stand to profit $235 if the Commodores win the CWS. As the tournament progresses and one team stands out, you might see that a team is has a minus sign (-) ahead of its odds.

  • Texas -120

This means that you would need to bet $120 to win $100 on a Longhorns championship.
