Boxing Parlay

I have already Unloaded on Andre Ward -200 (posted on this site when the line came out). U won't get that price anymore..

Going to play a parlay I like:

Bute to beat Road Warrior on Points @ -225
Pacquaio to beat Marquez on Points @ +120

Reasons:

Carl Froch hits hard. Harder than Bute. He described hitting Johnson like hitting an oak tree. I am concerned about Glen's age and the fact he has been in many wars. At some stage he has to slow down and on the road in Canada is a big concern. Still I can't see Bute getting the KO here. Johnson is MILES above the standard of guy Bute has been fighting and I think Bute will win a closer then expected decision.

Marquez to me has never looked close to being stopped in his career. These guys have fought for 24 rounds and there has been nothing in it. Now Pac has improved (has a right hand and more comfortable at the weight) while Marquez seems to be, not the fighter he was. Still every great fighter has one last great fight in them and I can't escape the fact Marquez is REALLY up for this fight. I expect Pacman to win fairly handily, but I don't see him getting the KO. I think this fight gives boxing a much needed boost after an enjoyable 12 round war.

Have to Play Ricky Burns +225 to beat Michael Katsidis on points. I see this is a 50/50 fight and burns aint KOing Kats. I think the home fighter finds a away to get this done (in a classic) against a man that is showing signs of getting past his past....

I would disagree on you comment about froch hitting harder than bute, I think bute has a slight edge in that department especially to the body, I sometimes train in the same gym as bute so I know a lot of things about him that most of the boxing world does not, lets just say that he is being protected for a reason, he is actually what's wrong with boxing today, a guy who gets some bullshit title, fights b and c level opposition in his (adopted) hometown and then walks around thinking he is the champ, real champs fight the best, bute can't take it on the chin, trust me on that, that is why he is being matched the way that he is. but they are fighting johnson at the right time as he is,  well,  an old man who's stamina is no longer good enough to fight a full 12 rounds, these 2 were sparring partners down in miami before johnson fought dawson the first time I believe so they know each other well and from all accounts with the headgear and 16 oz gloves bute got the best of most rounds, bute's problem is when the headgear comes off, can he take it if johnson can continuously  find his chin? is he mentally tough enough to deal with the pressure that johnson is sure to put on him? is johnson at this stage fast enough to track down the speedy bute, will he be able to make him fight? I say no, I do think bute will win a dec.   the one think I can not critisize bute about is his strength as a bodypuncher, I would not be suprised to see him drop or seriously hurt johnson with and uppercut downstairs,   but for me this fight has too many what if's, I will not bet on it,  although I do think bute will win by dec, hell even if he looses a close fight, johnson won't get the dec.  here in canada anyways,   

what bute should do is step up to the plate and fight pascal in an all montreal showdown, pascal will, but bute knows that pascal him put a beatdown on him so he will never take that fight, as bute is what I call a PC fighter, meaning protective custody.

After hearing what you say about bute it confirms what i thought of him. I was wondering what he was going to do when he fought a top guy outside of Canada. I hope Johnson gives him a good effort which he probally will. I think Froch and Bute would be a good match up.

   Carl Froch vs Andre Ward: Froch may hit harder than Bute, but they both have 1 punch KO power and in that case who the harder hitter becomes less relevant. Reason for this, is not as much they will KO an opponent with a punch but the respect and caution they have to use when you compete against any fighter that can change the fight with one punch. It basically slows down a fast starter until he adjusts and feels what he is up against. Ward beating Kessler was most likely the fastest hard hitting opponent he faced. Ward has a very tricky style among his physical talent. I had great odds when Kessler fought Froch and he won decisively. Ward doesn't have that type of power, but his speed and antipcation will dominate. Also remember Taylor would have beat Froch (by Split Decision) if he lasted the final round, but Taylor proved again he still had terrible stamina.
   Glen Johnson vs Lucian Bute: Bute will be to fast for Johnson and he has the power to hurt Johnson. Librado Andrade was known for his exceptional chin and ability to take serious punches and keep coming. Bute hit Andrade with a left body shot under Andrade's guard and that was it. Bute knocked all the wind out of a guy who can withstand a serious beating but chopped him down with one body shot. Bute throws those fast combo head shots, but Johnson carries a good defensive guard. I think Bute being a southpaw will help him as the angles he punches from will be slightly different thus having a higher connect percentage. Johnson loss against two good southpaws (Tarver 1-1, Dawson 0-2). Johnson is tough, and I don't see Bute getting a KO, but I think after so many punches the road warrior can get a cut or swelling and possibly at age 42 he won't have the stamina for a fast paced Bute. Johnson has been declining and this maybe the fight where just doesn't have it anymore. It could go either way, but regardless Bute's output will have Johnson tired.
   Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez III: I've posted on this several times. The only reason JMM wasn't KO'd by Floyd was the simple fact that Mayweather is safety first, just like he picks his opponents. This will be action but Manny is to strong at this point and six years younger. I feel after several knockdowns or a relentless beating, Nacho or the referee will stop it before the end of the eigth round. Marquez at the catch-weight doesn't have the power he use to at lightweight, and with his age, weight gain, and a war-torn body, he is in decline and physically to far behind at this point in his career. I can't imagine how this fight goes 12 rounds.
Mack05: "Pacquaio to beat Marquez on Points @ +120" although I disagree you should bet Over 10.5 rounds at +110 this way it doesn't matter who wins and you have an extra 2.5 rounds. Lately we have seen championship round KOs and also fights stopped late as they feel their fighter can't win and it gets stopped. Example: Marquez TKOd Casamayor in the 11th round. Pacquiao TKOd Cotto in the 12th round.
    Overall it's a better wager because if Marquez is tired and hurt (cut, swelling, etc...) and Nacho knows that Juan can't KO Manny, he will stop it or  the referee might call it or consult with the doctor and Marquez corner. Also, just because we can't imagine JMM winning by decision, doesn't mean it is not possible especially when you have a fighter who is as hardcore as they come!
  Bottom Line: There have been way to many strange things happen, so giving yourself more options to win without sacrificing significant odds is the correct play.

BigPapa21: I think Froch vs Bute would be a decent action fight, but I think Bute wins easily. I feel Kessler vs Bute would be a great fight as their physical attributes are very similar in speed, power, etc. Bute is constantly moving lateral as Kessler comes forward. Bute as stated hasn't fought the caliber opponents thus still leaving him an unknown factor. We know he has fast hands, good punching power, uses combinations and consistently moves lateraly. Kessler has fought Froch, Ward and Calzaghe. Each of those opponents had different abilities and styles, but Froch was decent, Calzaghe was excellent and Ward is the best in the division. Bute throws three to four punch combos many times and Kessler can counter decent enough to maybe slow down Bute's fast pace. The one thing I didn't like regarding Kessler was his statement prior to his last fight as Mikkel claimed that if he had lost against Mehdi Bouadla he would retire. Kessler is 32 and making that statement leaves doubt about several aspects.
Bottom Line: Ward is the best in the division. Bute and Kessler are next, with Froch just behind. Pavlik(29) hasn't been in any media hype, but he is still younger than Bute(31), Kessler(32) and Froch(34). I think after his first loss to Hopkins as he was around a 5-1 favorite, people forget that he was 10lbs more than his average weight, and lacking fast hands it was a handout to Hopkins. Then against Martinez he was favored and Sergio was +125. I was thinking maybe it was an error, or maybe some inside information swayed the odds... and also was thinking this is to good to be true. Pavlik lost to a legend (Hall of Fame, and maybe lbs-for-lbs all-time if not for theatrical events against Dawson) Hopkins who only lost his pro debut, then to the 90's superman Roy Jones Jr, and then last up until then back-to-back bouts against Taylor in two close bouts. Pavlik then lost Sergio who KO'd Williams right after they fought. That's boxing, one minute your HOT, then your NOT! There was always two reasons boxers didn't get many sponsorship deals initially and it is limited now as well. One is many companies don't want to be associated with brutality, and second by the time you do commercials you might lose your championship belts to an opponent and the company is now supporting a brutal loser (it's a catch-22, but that's the reality).

ZOUK, your knocking hopkins for what happend in the dawson fight?  the mri was positive, he had a dislocation,  their was not theatricks, dawson picked up his leg and through him down, hopkins is 46 he should not be here anymore, so anything he does can only add to his legacy not take from it,  is duran's legacy tainted because he was losing to bums in his 40's?, is ali's legacy tainted because berbick tanned his ass up and holmes made a punching bag out of him?  is robinsons's because he lost to joey archer and stan harrington? chavez made it a habbit to quit in fights at the end of his career, shit our boy ezzard charles lost 13 out of his last 25 I believe,  bernards legacy is in tact, he can only enhance himself now,   he could fight 10 more times and lose them all by ko and it would not change his place in history. almost all great fighters go out in embarassing fashion,  not saying that will happen to bernard, but the chances are it will and if it does it will not change his place in history one bit.  

I didn't claim anything you said, but pressing down on a fighter leaning forward in a clinch is dangerous as you would know. Very easy for his back to give out when Hopkins totally leaned and hopped on it. Yes, Dawson,picked the leg up, but he released it to once Bernard was off and threw Hopkins back. I didn't say Hopkins faked, or made excuses.. others did.
Basically, Hopkins got dirty and Dawson did scoop him with the intention of protecting himself and making a statement as well. If I was in a vulnerable position like Dawson I would protect and respond. Also, excellent fighters a top their weightclass often either get big paydays early or late in career... Roy Jones early... B-Hop late. Dawson is primed at his best and if he got hurt, he loses millions, Hopkins on the other hand is comfortable cash wise. Dawson has more to lose in that perspective then Hopkins.

As far as the hopkins Dawson thing goes only Hopkins knew what he was trying to do there. It was a typical hopkins move and Dawson wasn't playing any of that. It was just really unfortunate what happened and really messed up for the bettors with the call of no foul. I'm not sure but the ref was probally thinking if Hopkins don't go over his back Dawson don't throw him off. Thus no foul. If what Dawson did was a foul wasn't what Hopkins did just as much of a foul? Just one of them messed up things that happen in boxing...

Hey GL to you Mack on your plays. Ward seems to be to much for Frock in all phases...

Kessler is slightly better than Froch in most categories. Kessler also makes minor adjustments in the fight as Froch remains the same. Ward is to fast, to smart, and has great stamina to move around coming at many angles when Froch's footwork isn't adjusted. I feel it's easy fight for Ward, and if it goes to the scorecards, 120-108!!! If you think Ward decision, If you like Ward by decision, try a points prop (example;  Froch +27pts on scorecard   Froch 109- Ward 119 on all 3 cards, Ward wins by 30 covering the spread.) With just straight bets getting major controversy, adding props at this point is asking to lose. I think Ward will win every round, but all it takes is even a flash knockdown and your 10-9 round goes 8-10 for a 3 point reversal.
   Just a thought if you had the option and wanted to make a small gamble (lol). Ward even -300 seems odd to me... I see Ward winning 9 out of 10 fights... thats 9-1.., maybe they think the public doesn't know Ward well enough and Froch from his battles and late KO against Taylor!

 

i had a small play on dawson not knowing which version i was going to get, even with winky in his corner. manny insinuated dawson was distracted and that clearly was not the case.

if they rematch, which i believe hopkins will elect not to do, dawson is a 10 unit play for me. 

in fact, after this shoulder injury, hopkins is a serious fade from this point on.

Mack05: It's difficult for me to get props that I can parlay. Also, Las Vegas sportsbooks won't take Atlantic City bets, EVEN THOUGH THEY POST ODDS!!! Basically it's not Nevada State Athletic Commission and I had the same problem when Cotto (-240) beat Quintanna. Bellagio posted odds (even though they are not considered a major sportsbook) and declined a wager. I spoke to VP in sports/race-book and they first offered max $500... I was betting for someone else as well, I wanted 24k each to win 10k... they said no can do, but then offered to do it through Borgatta for a small amount.

 ZOUK  you said pavlick lost to a legend( hall of fame and maybe p4p all time IF NOT FOR THE THATRICAL EVENTS AGAINST DAWSON. that is why I responded with post nubmer 7, you were implying with that comment that the dawson fight would effect his legacy,  so how can you say that you did not claim anything that I said in post 7?

as for ward vs froch, I think it will be closer than people think, I feel that froch's long jab will give ward some problems, froch is stronger and has a better chin, ward is faster and more skillful with better defence,  this is a pick em to me and have not yet decided who I think will win. the fact that froch lost a close fight to kessler, a fight that he though he won, is very big for froch, he has tasted defeat and surly does not like the taste, he will not go down calmly

  Against Calzaghe he said it was for promotional purposes, "You're not even in my league! I would never let a white boy beat me. I would never lose to a white boy. I couldn't go back to the projects if I let a white boy beat me." 
  Then comments about McNabb not being black or tough, that Donovan had a sun tan (claiming underneath he is white).
  He commented about Manny, and a true black fighter has a natural slick style that would be successful against Manny. "Listen, this ain’t a racial thing, but then again, maybe it is. But the style that is embedded in most of us black fighters, that style could be a problem to any other style of fighting."

I stated his controversy fight and statements will only hurt him in the long run. Unfortunately people rate boxers with a bias, not pure analytical, so as much as we think we are in full control we are all 99% blind (we are more biased than one imagines)! I never smoked, haven't had a drink since last winter.

+120 is a good number for Pacquiao on points

Pac will definitely bring it. I have a soft-spot for Marquez because pure toughness is not strength or power, it's the ability to mentally endure what other fighters (people) can not. Everyone has a breaking point, but Marquez even going toe-to-toe with Manny at Lightweight, Manny even said no more of this guy. If half the fighters, and 99% of heavyweights had 50% the heart of Marquez boxing would be great and no matter what your weight, your pay should not go up because you are heavier. The 2 fighters that actually brought action and excitement to Heavyweights in the past 25 Years has been Tyson and Holyfield. Although Lewis is ranked better, Evander and Tyson rarely had boring fights. An when they fought each other...LOL... we saw a first time double ear bite!!!

With Mayweather choosing May 5 at the MGM for his next fight....I do not believe the rumors of a PACMAN or Morales fight......But do you guys think it could be Cotto, S. Martinez, Chavez Jr. or Canelo? Also based on recent statements by Amir, I think he is moving towards a fight with Tim Bradley.......I want to see the PAC vs May fight but with the date being Cinco de Mayo......I believe it is one of the four listed above........and hopefully not E. Morales.

Mayweather threw Pacman's name out there as bait. He uses this same stunt everytime. Before Hatton v Pacquaio he announces his comeback. Now the same bullcrap here. He is trying to give the impression he wants the fight but in truth he never has and never will. The guy for all his talents is a coward. He wants to make as much money as possible, fighting the easiest guys possible. Smoking Joe he aint. Joe was a legend, would fight anyone and never cherry picked anybody. Do you Mayweather would take a dangerous fight against a Alvarez or Martinez! Not a chance. He might go for Cotto as I believe Cotto is well past his best and Mayweather knows this. I reckon Mayweathers next fight is against Eric Morales. He has the name, he beat Pacquaio and its an easy fight that will make money. That is Floyd Mayweather in a nutshell..

I think Pacquaio is not muxh better. He will go for Bradley after this fight and then pick another fighter that won't trouble. The public are the mugs here. They keep buying the PPV's and these guys are lapping up the money. The sport is now a joke. Thank god for the super six and fights like James Kirkland/Angulo.
