The bernard Hopkins that turned up in the Ornelas and Jones fights looked bored, he fought as if he was in a sparring session, and he pretty much was. When he's facing a great challenge, and is motivated with something to be achieved (like another world title, or becoming the oldest world champion in boxing history) he then fights with a different purpose. Perhaps Pascal was expecting the Bernard that showed up in the previous 2 fights, to show up to fight him - and took him lightly? Perhaps. Hard to say. That said, you would think the fact that Hopkins' people called up Pascal's people the moment Pascal took the strap off of Dawson and asked for the fight would've gotten Pascal's attention, but maybe it didnt? Maybe he really thought Hopkins would look like the zombie he appeared to be in the Jones fight? If you're a Pascal supporter, this is perhaps something you can lean on. I think it's grasping it straws but who knows. I say it's straws b/c Pascal fought that fight in the same manner that he fights all his bouts. Fast, explosive start, gradually slows, flurries become less & less, circling ring becomes more & more, breathing becomes heavier. The Dawson fight went in this same manner, Pascal was gassing, but Dawson looked so disinterested and just wasn't throwing, when he was throwing he was having alot of success, he just wouldnt let his hands go, perhaps for the fact that Dawson has leaky defense and he feared getting countered by Pascal's power? Then Dawson got cut and they stopped it as Pascal looked very weary.
Hopkins foughts in the exact opposite manner as Dawson. He is defense first, he jumps in with his punches and his chin tucked against his collarbone, holds after he's done throwing, works on the inside, break, defensive guard back up, rinse and repeat. The most amazing thing about Hopkins is he never gets hit square on the chin, it really is incredible how disciplined he is defensively. When Pascal buzzed him, both were wide shots to the back of the head area, and the impact pushed Hopkins over moreso than knocked him down. A result, to me, of older legs. But...as he always does, Hopkins then adjusted. He was looking for the wide looping hooks and anticipating them. Once he neutralized that, the fight was essentially over and he dictated the terms for the last 8 rounds.
In this fight I expect Hopkins to fight at a conservative pace for the first 4 rds, when Pascal is at his most dangerous. Hopkins can afford to lose 2-3 of those rds 10-9, as long as he doesnt lose a couple of them 10-8 I think he will believe he can outhustle and outmanuever Pascal in the last 7-8 rds or so as Pascal's flurries become less vicious and less frequent. Hopkins is the master of adjustments. Once he had Pascal's lunging flurries and sweeping hooks timed, he dominated from Rd 4-Rd 12...he started to crowd Pascal and was schooling him with in-fighting. Pascal wants to fight exclusively on the outside and jump in with flashy hook combos, he doesnt like to be crowded and pressed. Bernard knows this.
Hopkins is a ridiculous +185 to win this fight by decision. I cant imagine the odds possibly staying at this price. I am ALL OVER this wager. I dont see a stoppage in any way, shape or form, but I also just cant see Pascal outworking Hopkins with his fighting in patches unless he knocks Bernard down 2 times again and I just dont foresee that happening.
I also love Andre Ward by DEC on AA in a boring, wide UD. Ward is -145 by DEC. Unless AA gets himself DQ'd late out of frustration, this one is going to the cards and Ward wins in a rout.

I like the side but never saw a price near -145. I lay-ed -165 2 days ago. But I guess the 20 cent difference won't matter if you win. But I do agree that Abraham is not busy enough to ever win a decision against Ward. His only chance would be to land a lucky hay-maker during the 30 seconds of any round that he actually decides to throw some punches. Not very likely.

Play of the year on a 46 year old man who's the much smaller man and has spent more time trash talking than training?
This is right up there with among the dumbest things I've ever read on the internet.
1) Hopkins has fought more fights at light heavyweight than Pascal. How is Pascal "the much bigger man"? Why b/c he has more muscles? Hopkins is 6'1, Pascal is 5'10. Hopkins reach is 75, Pascal is 72.
2) Hopkins talks before EVERY fight, he's also in shape for EVERY fight, not just good shape, but tip top shape.
3) Pascal is 28 and his stamina is horrendous, he fades in the second of every fight. Hopkins is 46, yet gets stronger as every fight wears on.
You seriously shouldnt be permitted to wager on boxing. Someone needs to save you from yourself. I'm not saying anything is a lock in sports, but you clearly have no idea what you're talking about here.

Might I add, in the last 18 yrs, Hopkins hasnt lost a fought by worse than a split decision or by 1 round on the cards. And most of his wins were blowout wins. When he loses....he barely loses.
The 46 yr old argument applies to mortal man. He is a rare breed.

Maybe for retards I should have put stronger instead of bigger since you obv dont catch on to quick
I shouldnt be allowed to be on boxing ?
I'm not the one making the biggest play of the year and my complete basis for doing that is their last fight . So according to you every rematch in history went exactly as the first fight correct? lol you're a joke

Who are you again? He provided much better analysis on this fight than you did and value to the forum in general. Buy bye.

This is directed toward 1 person and 1 person only. He knows who he is.
No disrespect toward anyone else. I posted about 20 paragraphs about why I loved the fight and get shat on by a couple of individuals.
No need for me to post on here again...I feel I have some good opinions to share on boxing.
I don't post often, but I appreciated your analysis on this fight. It confirmed my opinions about it. I, for one, have no problem with you or anyone rubbing it in someone's face who went out of his way to break your balls in YOUR thread. As for the other poster whose feelings you apparently hurt b/c you did it, should GET OVER HIMSELF. Good Luck to all in the future
