I have to say I am disappointed he wouldn't fight Chad Dawson. He says he has a achieved all his goals but he never won a real Light - Heavy belt and never fought the best guy in the division and offered to go to Wales to fight him!
I think that is one fight (Dawson) he needed to convince me. I dont buy he didn't fight Hopkins and Jones in their primes, as neither wanted to fight him when he called them out in the 90's. He was desperate to fight them as he wasn't making money but they didnt want to know.
I am a Calzaghe fan but I am disappointed he choose not to face Dawson..

His win over Roy isn't impressive at all, but the domination of Lacy and Kessler, coupled with the close win over Bernard cemented his legacy. Super-middle wasn't stocked with talent, but he beat what was there. He would've wiped the floor with Otke had they fought.

And to say he didn't win a 'real' light heavyweight belt is just wrong. He won THE light heavyweight belt from Hopkins, who won it from Tarver, who won it from Johnson, who won it from Tarver, who won it from Roy.

your wrong Danger he won 'the ring' light heavweight belt. Tarver was not a champion when he fought Hopkins. Therefore he never won a Light Heavyweight belt (WBO/IBF/WBA/WBC). The Dawson fight made sense to achieve this..

I respectfully disagree. I don't follow the alphabet belts. I follow the lineage. I do not think of Hugo Garay as being one of the top dogs at 175 just because he has a belt. To me Calzaghe was the champ.

Over rated, he fought a punching bag which is Jeffy Lacy. He fought Roy Jones after Roy's prime. He Fought Hopkins at the end of Hopkins career. Remind you of anyone... Oscar De La Hoya! Yes, Oscar never won a REAL fight, look at his career! Chavez SR TWICE.. classy!
If he wants to PROVE he is the best, fight a guy who has the same skills as you, not guys who don't have it or have lost it.
He got dropped on flash knock downs by Roy Jones and Hopkins in the FIRST. He came back yes, but if you want to be recognized as the best you need to fight the best not the best for your pocket.
He is a very good fighter, and Chad Dawson is the ONLY one left in the division that could BEAT HIM.
Chad Dawson is his own worst enemy, if he took bigger fights, you COULD get JOE to take the fight as it would be a PPV, but he's been cruising and fighting lesser guys so JOE is doing the right thing. Take the perfect record and stay home, at his age to take this fought would mean big bucks and the public will NOT BUY IT.

He'll be a legend in the UK. Not many fighters finish with an undefeated record.
Agreed a Legend there, then again he was a legend to them quite a while ago. Many boxers don't know WHEN to quit. Most fight because of poor money management and some fight because that's all they know. He's going out on HIS TERMS which is a rarity in boxing.
