Don't know what Canelo and his handlers are thinking here unless they feel P WILL is totally shot which he isn't.
PWILL is out for another big payday, he's coming to win, he's not a fighter that will lay down. I have yet to see Canelo fight at a high pace fight. I have yet to see him fight a young fighter. I still have tons of questions on his stlye of fighting and this fight will answer a lot of them. Canelo, IMO, gasses really quick. He seems like he's a slow twitched fighter. Lacks head movement. I haven't seen him have to adjust yeti n a fight. He fights in spurts, to conserve energy, possibly from coming down in weight (he will be a 160 lb fighter soon). P will will force him to fight at a high paced fight from the opening bell, putting pressure.
I like P Williams here by KO....can't wait to see the lines.

Williams doesn't FIGHT tall. Little Lara (one of the reasons they selected him) had little trouble landing straight shots and findings his range. I'm not sure if it's possible for Williams to be stopped worse than his KO loss to Martinez, but he'll certainly take more punishment in this fight.

Go back and watch the Margarito-Williams fight. That was a prime Margarito. Williams worked the angles well and did a decent job of keeping his distance. Margarito and Lara are both 5'11''. Canelo is 5'8", 5'9" tops. Canelo is a midget compared to William's. Canelo well be a heavy favorite so it woks out well for Williams' backers.

Watch Quintana vs Williams (first fight). Williams came out unprepared and Carlos had a perfect game plan. He was a fighter that was at almost every dis-advantage except his game plan preparation made the blue print for other to take hold of. Everyone followed that...

Quintana is also 5'11". The Japanese guy was also tall. Canelo is so short compared to Williams that I'm interested in seeing what gameplan Canelo brings to the table.

Alvarez's bodywork my be the best of any active fighter right now. It's easily the most overlooked aspect of his game. People don't think of Alvarez as a huge puncher because he isn't landing many brutal head shots. However, he lands brutal combos downstairs and shoots strong uppercuts to finish them off.
Between William's small frame and willingness (at this point in his career) to let people lay on his chest or simply trade is going to be disaster. He simply can't win a firefight. It's that simple, because when you look at his last five fights, EVERY SINGLE ONE has been a tough fight where people touched him up. Even the 120-108 cards against Ishida don't indicate the level of success Ishida had early in that fight.
The Paul Williams that hit and didn't get hit against Winky that struck fear in everyone from 140+ doesn't exist anymore. Why? I have no idea. The brutality of both Martinez fights are probably a good place to start. One fight can ruin a fighter physically and mentally, let alone two.
Basically, anyone entertaining a Williams wager shouldn't. Quite honestly, it's almost embarrassing when you consider the extended shitty performances that Williams has turned in over the last three years. There is absolutely no reason to expect Williams to return to his previous form. The continually expanding body of evidence suggests otherwise.
Even IF Williams did revert to his prior form, he was never the type a pure slick boxer. He had an outstanding work rate, solid pop, and range that helped him avoid power shots. Until Canelo faces a slick guy with great movement and enough power to stop Canelo from throwing bombs at will, he'll keep blowing people out while hardly losing a round.
This isn't an Alvarez fluff piece. I've never, EVER seen as little head movement from a fighter at this elite level. He absolutely flawed, but his strengths and/or his opponents lack of the skill set necessary to exploit him will keep him at the top level of the sport for a very, very, VERY long time. He's the new golden goose, get used to it.

Winky's pure defensive style with southpaw near like peek-a-boo style was a mystery to fighters. Winky cornered fighters like Taylor and did the damage technically. Williams threw non-stop and a defensive fighter is trained to wait for that moment of rest. Williams didn't stop, and Winky was also past his prime. It was tailor made for Winky. That was one of the largest bets I ever did on boxing because with Winky I feared no headbutt or KO, or even cuts with either fighter. Winky would just sit there and take shots with gloves up.. and did. The Canelo fight, totally different, but not sure Williams is finished or that much different. It took time to expose many weakness from a guy with a reach the size of Lennox Lewis fighting little guys and can fight close in very well. His problem is mid-range as he leans and fights like a smaller guy, like Oscar did earlier in his career. Martinez watched film and just set the distance and traded knowing his punch would land before and cleaner than Williams punch as he has to loop it with that reach to get any power! Enjoy the fights!

I am liking Williams as well. Height, reach, speed vs strength, youth. I never been big on Canelo, he has been killing my wallet to his credit, i've bet against him in his last 3 fights Mosley, Cintron, Gomez.

Williams in my opinion, fights tough competion in their prime, unlike Canelo who has been getting babied by Golden Boy/ HBO to be star.(because he's mexican, and he looks white, so he will appeal to Latinos and white america, they hope). Williams should take this, I do worry about his chin though.
