I don't believe in stealing rounds and I've read that quite a few name judges feel the same. Probably has to do with what I've read and how I was trained. Which is, you shouldn't have to steal a round if you did enough for the 1st 2:30. Tarver comes to mind, he'll fight for 1 minute to :30 seconds of every round.
I hears ya on the Hoya bit, but Castillo had a less seasoned version of Mayweather on his plate and Castillo had been around the way for a minute...experience is big.
I've always wanted the Mosley.Mayweather fight at 135 prime vs prime. But, Hoya was trailblazing and everybody wanted those bucks. Before that time the only "real" money was in the heavies. Anyway, I think Mosley could have gotten him...very likely. But it is really hard to say. Not so sure Hoya could have ever gotten it done. Wouldn't have minded seeing it though cuz ya ever know. If it was a close fight I'm sure it would have gone to Oscar considering his popularity att.
Man, if I really honestly knew how to beat Mayweather I probably wouldn't be sitting behind this computer. Actually, if I did nobody would probably believe me anyway. But from what I've seen fail and what has produced results I'm starting to believe he can be beaten by using his skills against him. You'd also need a very special fighter. A little timing wouldn't hurt. He's at that age where he's going to be slowing down soon. From what I've seen, after 35 is when the decline begins. What I do know is what doesn't work. By all means, if we see a 36 year old Mayweather out there fighting the Castillo formula might be the winning recipe.
Not sure what constitutes being a pro in gambling, and not so sure I'd admit to it in an open forum anyway...lol. But if I was a pro this year I wouldn't tell anybody...lol. I'll tell you what, this year has been awful for me. I had such a good year last year; like 90%, that I thought I had the midas touch and tried doubling my monthly take.
But with the schedule being so screwy I found myself playing on fights where I didn't know much about either fighter and definitely strayed from my system. I have a sheet I use that has about 25 points of interest and when I use it I'm unstoppable...but it takes a lot of work and time. I will admit to being a bit lazy this year as well. If I had to take a guess I'd say I'm like 65% this year. In the green but not by any remarkable amount. I don't consider it a hobby as I'm in the media outlets 7 days a week. All I cap is boxing, no skill in the other arena's. Coming off hiatus though.
My great uncle was a pro, my dad boxed in the Air Force. I boxed in my mid 20's and did the gloves in 97'. Couple of wins, 1 loss in the finals, decision.
Had really good trainers, 1st trainer used to get work with Hagler. My 2nd trainer was really good in certain ways, but limited in others. He had Scott Pemberton, Ray Oliveira, Jason Pires. I got a lot work with Scott, a little with Ray, none with Pires. He was more of an am's coach imo. Last trainer was Oliveira, actually his 1st student. Maybe like 6-8 months with him. Learned a lot though in a short amount of time. By that time I had seen what these guys were making and decided college was a better/safe route than turning pro. College it was, language major. Fought jr midd when it was 156.
I got into training fighters, never had anybody that fought but experience is key and got positive results imo. A friend who got into mma flew me out to work his corner. His opponent didn't show up, but befriended some kid at the venue that had a fight but had no trainer. Go figure. I worked his corner, he got stopped in the 2nd btw. Awesome experience though, you got 1 minute and it goes by quick...very exciting. I closed the doors last year after a family tragedy.
Besides that, I used to do a small boxing column on a mma site a friend owns. Never been paid, but it was a good outlet for me to hone my writing. Didn't get a ton of traffic and been inactive there for a bit. Going to start back up though, got another friend who wants me to write on his site and am going to give that a go. Could be money involved. Its just a hobby and helps me cap better. One of my posts here got ripped by a gambling site and the guy passed it off as his own. I might be on to something, probably not, but still an ego boost.
