This is a 50/50 fight, so getting 2.2/1 for a 50/50 fight is pretty good.
Im not saying Cotto is gonna win but the odds are very good..
Im just gonna state my case for Cotto for now...
People say Cotto is damaged goods after the Margarito fight. I beg to differ. I think he is different mentally for sure, but damaged goods is reaching.. He did beat a game Clottey with 1 eye.. Eventhough the win wasnt that convincing.. But Cotto before the Tony fight DESTROYS Manny..
Cotto is an intelligent boxer with the best jab in the 147 division. Deadly body puncher and strong as an ox.. Will Pac be able to take Cottos punches? can Cotto handle Pacs speed.Thats the million dollar questions... Cotto has fought fast fighters but not on Pacs level of speed with the hands and especially feet.. And
Pac has been sparring with bigger guys than Cotto.. But thats sparring..
People also seem to think Cotto has a stamina problem.. I beg to differ here as well.. Now dont get me wrong, Cotto doesnt have great stamina. Its probably average..
But the thing is this.. Cotto only has issues with stamina vs big welterweights like Clottey, Mosley and Margarito.. Other than those guys his stamina has been fine vs smaller guys.. I think Cotto is gonna control the fight with his jab, intelligent pressure and boxing ability early on and if he doesnt KO Pac, he can get enough rounds in the bag early to win a decision. I think Cotto is a better boxer than Manny.. and I dont think Cotto will get too tired because Manny isnt physically strong enough to sap energy from Cotto like bigger guys during clinches and in the inside..
Pacs gameplan is gonna be simple.. Identical to the Oscar fight. Im not sure thats gonna work with Cotto.. Cotto has an awesome jab with GREAT timing. I think he will time Pac with the jab snapping Pacs head back multiple times, maybe even dropping him like he did Clottey when Clottey tried to jump in.. Cottos boxing skills are being underrated here.. He's very versatile as he can fight going forward or backwards.. But Im sure he will play the aggressor though.. Judges like that. Cotto usually only plays the fleet footed boxer when he;s tired or in trouble vs bigger guys
Me personally Im betting 10 Units on Cotto.. I dont think its out the realm of possibilty Cotto can win by decision here like some people.. If Cotto has enough rounds by round 8-9 he will definitely cruise to a decision and not take risk to KO Manny..
Now heres some things that concern me.. Cotto cuts a lot whether its in his mouth like vs Judah, Mosley, Tony or on his face like Clottey and Judah... another thing is his trainer, he is basically a rookie and Cotto probably trained himself during camp. Not fixing habits or mistakes or even having a weak gameplan.. While Roach is the best in the business....Who knows..
Other than that, Cotto should be fine
