I know this is the wrong forum to ask... but i figure some in here may know the industry better as i'm no boxing expert...
From what I see boxing may be in some serious trouble. I'm not knocking boxing itself. but I don't know ANYONE who is currently following it. The entire sport seems to be losing "market share" every year to MMA (Which is booming considering it's size only a few years ago.)
Maybe it's just me... but I can only name a handful of professional boxers these days. As oppossed to a decade or more ago pro boxers were well known and commonly talked about.
Thoughts?

It's definitely more of a cult sport then what it used to be, but that doesn't mean it is even close to being dead. Plus, boxing fans are pretty die-hard.
Fighters are still making a ton of money (UFC fighters would kill for similar paydays) and the fights we have been treated to this year have been some of the best in recent memory.
The general sport media would like you to think the sport is dying, but I for one think the sport is the healthiest it has been in a few years right now.

the general sports media are a bunch old f'n lazy asses that would rather parrot that something is not interesting meanwhile they cover basketball and golf and ignore boxing and hockey
also they dismiss the UFC as barfighting because they are too lazy to understand it or watch it

boxing is losing some of its glitz and glamour because of the UFC. People are caught by the quick knockouts and all out wars of the cage instead of the technical aspect of boxing. People would rather watch people choke each other then watch a guy jab someone all night long. Just how the world is now a days.

Most people who appreciate the art of fighting enjoy both sports. People who just want to see a fight prefer UFC. And, there are many more of them than us.

Just the same as there are more people the watch wrestling which is fake than boxing .
Its just the world we live in today ,everyone is so ADD now days they need action to keep their attention span.
No one want to watch a technically sound fight anymore they just want quick knockouts and blood . I think its because of wrestling that the UFC took off so quick.

Boxing began to really fall off the map in the late 90's early 2000's but in the past several years it has begun to get back on the public map. The big reason is a better effort from espn and hbo on producing and promoting. But the biggest reason it is making a comeback in my mind is the quality of fighters in the sport, almost every division in the sport right now is loaded and loaded with alot of talent. The amt of talent in the sport is certainly at it's highest since probably the early to mid 80's. Boxing certainly is not at the level it once was I don't think anyone can dispute that especially when you look back in the hey day when boxing was America's number 1 sport. I think with the way the sport is setup in today's day it will never be in the forefront like it once was, too much politics involved. But I think the past several years it has really picked back up and headed in a postive direction. The media is slowly but surely is helping the sport but they certainly need to do a better job especially shows like sports center, that barely touch on the sport once a week even though they host fnf, wnf.
I will say this you really notice the chg the past several years out here in Vegas as their was once a pt in which you could barely notice when a big fight was happening and now every big/medium fight the strip is packed with fans. The atmosphere at the top fights is better than any sporting event in the country imo.
