Eduardo Escobedo +8.00 over Daniel Ponce DeLeon
Going to take a chance on this ‘live’ longshot, Eduardo Escobedo. Ponce DeLeon was given a ‘gift’ decision against the much older and smaller “Fearless” Gerry Penalosa, in one of the great boxing ‘robberies’ of recent times. He is going up against a young man who is trained by one of the best in Beristain, who is brimming with confidence heading into this encounter. Escobedo appears to be coming into his own and is the naturally bigger man, although DeLeon is as strong as a bull. The problem with DeLeon is that he is still a work in progress and as a 1-9 favorite; that just doesn’t cut it. Sure he caught Bautista early and blew the kid away but Saturday he is facing a confident up-and-comer who you can be sure will have a masterful strategy worked out for him and definitely has a shot at the big upset. Of course our man could get ‘caught’ himself, but he might also very well box circles around the still rather ‘crude’ and unpolished Ponce DeLeon. If the old-timer Penalosa could do it, there’s no reason why Escobedo can’t ‘go to school’ on that performance and do the same thing and hopefully not get ‘robbed’ like the Fearless one did! The line on this one is really absurd and for that reason I will gladly take my chances on this dog that I say can and will bite and shock a lot of people Saturday night!
