Marquez didn't do enough to take the belt from the champ, you have to give a beatdown or a KO to beat the champ!!
No you don't, all you have to do is win more rounds, boxing uses the marquess of queenbeery rules, combined with the 10 point must system, what your talking about is the london prize ring rules in the bare knuckle days. today all you have to do is win on points and clearly marquez did that. people often say that you have to beat the champ decisively to take the title, (they are wrong all you have to do is win more rounds or win on points if their is knockdowns) it is a term that has been passed on since the old days and has no barring on how boxing is run today. and just for the record pacquiao is not the champ, if you or anyone actually believes that then you are part of the problem, he got a vacated title, fought margarito for it, but neither one of them was even ranked in the top ten of that corrupt organization, so how can 2 guys who are not rated in the top 10 of the wbo fight for the wbo title, I will tell you how, corruption, so when people say that pacquiao is a 8 time champion is 8 different weight classes, it is 100 percent bullshit. the only real champions are the ones who where the ring magazine belt. if you want to know who they are pick up a ring magazine, certain people at hbo and espn are trying to ignore these corrupt sanctioning bodies all together, and until this happens the sport will never be as great as it once was, back in the day people could name the champs in every division, being the champ of a division used to truly mean something, being a contender actually meant something, how can a title mean something when their is 6 other people in your division that all claim to be champions as well, it can't, boxing needs a national commision to stop these money hungry leaches from ruining this great sport anymore than they already have, all other major sports have one and I believe that within the next 5 to 10 years boxing will too and when this happens boxing will again be as big as it once was.

In the NFL, does the 2010 Superbowl Champs automatically have a Superbowl match in 2011... don't they have to earn it? So does the boxing champ. The only reason to keep the title is a draw... SO, yes, you have to beat him to take the title. It has been taken out of context for years because of corruption in boxing they tell a fighter you have to BEAT a fighter in his hometown or if he is champ because of bad judges... C'mon, do you think no matter what Hagler did against Leonard, that he would get the decision in a close fight... NEVER! People wanted Leonard back fighting... and Hagler as great as he was didn't bring the revenue like Leonard did. Besides for Ali, maybe the most fan adored fighter ever!!! The real Sugar (Robinson) fought and beat anyone, anytime, anyplace... And Benny Leonard was a master boxer that used techniques most fighter never did until the 1980's!!! So the great Sugar Ray Leonard was great, but level of competition and always fighting the best every week somewhat makes you ahead on a lbs-for-lbs list... that's why old time fighters get the nod. They didn't fight once a year, but often once a week.
