Gamboa fight-aftermath discussion

am i retarded or am i right?
wasn't the punch delivered by Gamboa after the dude was obviously on his knee -A INSTANT DISQUALIFICATION?

and HBO don't even mention it as a possibility.  This is just such a joke.  i think Yourkis could of stabbed him at the ring and still nothing would happen.

Gamboa is  great boxer but his demeanor is just a ticking time bomb.  I am positive it will explode one day.  He keeps on throwing people around, punching when down, punching after the bell.  What is wrong with this dude?

He is a cocky duechebag. Abraham got insta DQ'd when he did the same thing to Dirrell. However, I believe it is only an insta DQ if the fighter can not continue.

Gamboa's lack of discipline will be his undoing. Instead of sticking to a game plan he goes floats around. I was on the fence before, but now I'm positive Juanma will win if they do met up. Dude needs to get focused. A guy with 10 losses landed a lot of shots he shouldn't have last night imo.

If Salido would've laid on the mat and told the ref he wasn't able to continue, it absolutely would've been a DQ.  People were praising him for not taking that road, but I don't know why he didn't.  Remember when Humberto Soto did that to Fransisco Lorenzo a few years ago?  He kicked Lorenzo's ass, but then hit him with a grazing shot on top of the head after he was down.  Lorenzo was already a bloody mess, but he said he couldn't go on.  After a huge discussion, they DQ'd Soto and gave Lorenzo the win. 

I just looked, and that fight was on the Pacquiao/David Diaz card on HBO PPV.  The announcers were blasting Joe Cortez for how long it took to make a ruling, and in the end they thought it was a bad ruling because Soto dominated the fight and it looked like Lotenzo was exagerating the impact of the shot he took after he was down.  Coincidentally (or maybe not), Joe Cortez was the ref this Saturday, and he didn't DQ Gamboa (I don't think he even asked Salido if he was unable to continue).

I think taking 2 points was fair, I do not beleive  that particular insident deserved a dq. solido is a solid fighter and gamboa was just fucking with him, like a cat playing with a mouse, Better competition will bring out the best in gamboa who is clearly one of the best athletes in the world and I am not so sure that the lopez fight will happen due to the fact that marquez is going to kick his ass,marquez will take this young man to a place where he has never been before. I like marquez to stop lopez  in a fight of the year type fight, people seem to think that marquez is finished, I am not one of them. gamboa vs marquez anyone

Marquez might not be shot, but it doesn't matter. He never had the type of chops to handle big shots. JuanMa will land bombs and KO him inside of 6.

you say that marquez can't take a good shot, lopez ain't gene fullmer either, I have seen him rocked a few times during his career against much weaker competition than marquez has been fighting over the past 6 or 7 years, they both will land bombs, but I think that marquez's experience in fighting wars will be too much for lopez and although marguez's defence is not consistant, I still beleive that it is slightly better than lopez's. this fight reminds me a bit of salvador sanchez only loss when he fought antonio beccera for the mexacan title, sanchez went in thinking that no body could take his power and was out fought by a more experienced fighter after that fight sanchez reliezed his mistake and turned himself into a master boxer/counterpuncher and one of the greatest fighters that I have ever saw and I have seen them all. I am not saying that lopez will ever be on sanchez's level because he won't. But in this fight I see a young kid getting out fought by a more experienced fighter and in the end it will make him a better fighter, just like it did with sanchez

That would have been a very likely scenario IF Marquez wasn't way past his prime. He's 35 and those wars he has been will hinder him, not help him.

Even if his experience allows him to take Lopez deep into the fight, I would still have the feeling he is dancing in the rain. At some point he will get wet.

I am sure that both marquez and his trainer are well aware that he has lost half a step, fighters know this even if they don't admit it..they will fight accordingly.I think that marquez fights this fight the way that he fought the tim austin and mark johnson fights, he was much more patient then, back then he used to ko guys with beautiful counterpunching rather than forcing it, he kind of fell in love with his power during his last few fights,he is much more effective as a counterpuncher, people have the vasquez fights in their minds, vasquez went staight at marquez and made it a war, its the only way that he knows, lopez will not be so recklus,because he is much more versitile than vasquez, so their will be more boxing in this fight and surley thats what the marquez team has in mind, they would be foolish to go to war with a young hungry,lion like lopez,In this fight its lopez proving himself , {think forrest vs mosley 1} so he will be the one forcing the action,that will allow marquez to do what originally got him to the top{and probly the hall of fame}.counterpunch with pinpoint powershots, think marquez vs austin with a little more exchanges due to marquez slowing a bit, either way this is a close fight that could go either way, I just think that marquez has more left than you think, time will tell             prediction ,marquez ko 10 in a heated boxing match

I'm a huge fan of both Marquez brothers, but he's going to get smoked by Juanma. I've been crowing this for years; fighters that are involved in trilogy caliber fights push their professional expiration date closer than it normally would be. Think of a boxers career like a numerical counter of shots taken. One can only take so many hard shots before wear and tear come to every sparring session and fight.
