If you want to compare both one was legal the other was not. Also, the lunging headbutt could have been serious, career ending or fatal. I don't like Floyd personally, but punching a guy who you hugged twice then he isn't looking and gets hit has the same outcome of a fighter getting hit with his hands up by a KO punch he doesn't see. The headbutt with the intention and force Ortiz used if it connected in the right spot and with total impact is very serious. Also, if that headbutt made the fight stop and hurt Floyd severely, maybe causing retirement or worse, don't you think the Neveda Athletic Commission would take action against Ortiz? I think so. So are we judging the outcome and not the intended action? Case closed!
BTW- Ortiz at 164lbs showed how dehydrated he had to be to make the weight. This huge fluctuation is dangerous and the reason they do weigh-ins a day prior and the on going discussion of maximum weights the night of the fight. Ortiz if he made it to round 8 would have been out of energy and still been losing. The incident was a blessing in disguise because a long fight and not in his best physical shape destroys fighters! For all the people who bet Ortiz and think he still had a chance aren't facing reality. He was frustrated and did the headbutt because he was way out classed. For people who bet Floyd by decision, I wouldn't be that upset because Ortiz showed exhaustion already and Floyd would most likely finished him like he did Hatton but probably worse. For those that didn't enjoy the fight, I hoped they liked the post fight interviews.
