A fight nearly broke out between Bernard Hopkins and Joe Calzaghe today during their first face-to-face meeting at the MGM Grand Media Center in Las Vegas. "I would never let a white boy beat me," Hopkins told reporters. "You can print that. I would never lose to a white person." Hopkins also dissed Calzaghe's win over Mikkel Kessler. "Kessler is not in my league, man. Who is Kessler? You think Kessler was a true warrior?" Calzaghe stated, "He ducked me four years ago. He thinks he's a legend but he lost to Jermain Taylor twice and, believe me, he will lose to me.....He'll get his arse kicked, full stop. He's all mouth. He doesn't fight, he holds." Both fighters said they would make their showdown happen in 2008, possibly at Yankee Stadium in New York City.

Hopkins is a racist?  Surprising to hear...is he that desperate to sell this fight?   Why would he say that and why is he given a free pass since he did say that?

Suppose that a white fighter had said "i'd never lose to a black person"   He would crucified!   sharpton and jackson would be boycotting the MGM ...Amazingly Hopkins statements were not really reported in the media at all.....Hopkins is a piece of shit criminal even if he didn't mean what he said.... he told his dying mother that he wouldn't fight after he turned 40... but the douchebag is disrespecting the memory of his mother for a buck....and using race-bating tactics to sell a fight....
 
I had tremendous respect for Bhop but no longer....

The guy is a world class boxer, but that comment has now put him in the clown category.
 
If he has any f--ing balls, then he'll come clean and apologize for saying something so stupid.  Then, I got to no problem, since it is understandable that a fighter will say silly things in the heat of the moment.
 
But, yeah....let's say Calzaghe had said that he'd never lose to a black boy..........then he'd be getting pummelled.
 
So, yeah, f--k "BHop."  I hope he does fight Joe C, cause Joe C will beat him.

Dudes so overrated and boring to watch what happens when he fought a real Middleweight with skill? He got beat Taylor/Roy  Jones sure he beat good blown up welters but that what they were.Oh and he beat Mason Dixon who is so over rated.Joe C would beat him badly and Kell Pav would stop him in 6

Back in July, I won some good money betting Mr "B-Hop" against Winky Wright.
 
After "B Hop" became an official Hall of Fame clown yesterday, I sure as hell hope he does have the balls to fight Joe C.  Won't bet it, cause the line will be awful for Joe C (probably -200ish), but goddarn will I root like hell for Calzaghe to shut this dummy up.

It's interesting that they are talking about putting this fight in Yankee stadium.  I know who will be putting butts in the seat and his name isn't Bernard.  This would be the British invasion encore.

I would never let a black boy beat me!" If Calzaghe had uttered that sentence he would have been excoriated. We have a terrible double standard in America and it makes me sick. Imus gets the heave-ho for a statement made in jest. I'm not defending his statement but if a black radio host made a similarly distasteful comment, it would have gone unnoticed.
