i hate boxing promoters/why dont championship belts mean garbage?

Chad Dawson has given up his championship belt for some extra money fighting someone he has already beaten. He wouldn't fight the #1 contender Tavoris Cloud (19-0 18 KOs) because he doesn't have the name recognition to make HBO interested in the fight. Dawson's promoters have also criticized Cloud's management because they would rather fight for the vacant belt then fight the Dawson undercard with the promise of a Dawson fight if both win. I had never heard of Cloud until I saw him fight on ESPN2 a long time ago. I became a big fan of his that night and have patiently been awaiting another fight for him. I personally like that he's not chasing money and instead apparently is going to try to win the belt but the problem is his career may be being mismanaged by doing this. I would love to see him and Dawson fight and hopefully the fight will get made sometime in the near future. Hopefully Cloud will win the belt and finally get some recognition, I hope his career turns out as promising as it looked like it may when I saw him fight.

another example of why boxing promoters suck is bob arum. He could try to set up the biggest fight in recent memory in Pacquio mayweather (assuming he beats JMM) but instead because of bad relationships with mayweather and his manager he is pushing hard for manny to fight cotto who go figure he happens to promote as well. Manny has recently come out to say he wants floyd but Arum will most certainly still be trying to set up the cotto fight to try to line his fat pockets some more. Its such BS that money could rob us of what i think would be by far the best possible fight that could be made.

What can you expect from Dawson though?  He's in danger of being publicly irrelevant, and taking a fight against a no-name that no one picks up is a huge step backwards for him.  At this point in his career where he's trying to make a name for himself, he can't afford to take any steps back

ya i understand that, and i know cloud hasnt done much to get his name out there recently, but the guy is the #1 contender for a reason. hes undefeated with all but one of those fights coming by way of knockout. I just really wanted to see him fight again because I think he is entertaining to watch and has power to end the fight at any time. im not upset at dawson i just don't like how boxing is a game that all boils down to money. Usually not even for the fighters. It should be like other sports where the #1 goal is winning championships, period. The best guys should be fighting the best guys for title belts. I understand taking this fight would probably not be the best career move for dawson but thats the problem. It makes you more famous to not be the champion and fight someone who people have heard of, then to continue defending the belt against up and coming fighters.

Screw Tavoris Cloud.  He's been inactive for too long.  It was apparent a long time ago that Dawson wasn't going to fight him.  Instead of fighting and building his profile, he's sitting around waiting for Dawson to get stripped.  Fuck him.  Guys like him are what's wrong with boxing.  He'll put himself on the shelf for a year, just to get a shot at an alphabet title.  Dumb.

Dawson is giving Glen Johnson the rematch he deserves instead of fighting Cloud!

I love Glen Johnson, he's never ducked anyone he puts 150% into every fight, never trash talks, and goes to the opponents home town usually.

I think he might be the most robbed boxer in history, you know one thing with Glen Johnson, he lays down down for NO ONE.

He may be getting up there is age, he may not be one of the best, but I have probably the  MOST respect for him than any other boxer out there, for the reasons mentioned above!

Nobody pays attention to those belts anyway

I only look at the Ring Magazine/linear champs as the champs

cloud is a great prospect but dawson is too mature for him and clouds team knows it.......dawson is a no name and fighting another no name who could rock him could lose him any tv contract quick......
 
beside rumor has it after Johnson, Dawson would like to move down and fight some of the more popular fighters at super middleweight..no money at light heavyweight right now except for a hopkins or calazaghe fight.. and he hasnt have the power to move up......
