I thought Chavez looked good. At the Rubio weigh-in Chavez had a dead look in his eyes. Being dehyrdated at a weigh-in is just business as usual. The ordeal of deydrating and then reydrating is not as taxing on a young person's body as an old person's body. It's like a 21 year old getting a sprained ankle and being out for a day, while his father gets a sprained ankle and is out for almost 2 weeks.
Chavez is definately in the best CARDIOVSASCULAR shape of his career. Roach and Ariza understand that Martinez' footwork is his biggest advantage, and if it was me training Chavez, I'd be focusing on improving footwork/footspeed and working more long-range attacks (i.e. doublejab-right cross) in the early rounds.
Based on the weigh-in, I think Chavez will only gain 16 lbs as opposed to his normal 21 lbs. Speed is the key for Chavez. This reminds me of when Roy Jones fought John Ruiz. Ruiz came in very light compared to his most recent fights because he knew he needed more speed.
