Jermain Taylor vs Carl Froch

Jermain Taylor's last 8 opponents have been an impressive line-up. From 2005 fighting Hopkins twice, in 2006 Winky Wright and Kassim Ouma, in 2007 Spinks & Pavlik, and in 2008 Pavlik again and Jeff Lacy. It seems somewhere starting 2007 he started having stamina issues. Watch the Spinks fight, or Pavlik and you will see, but in the past even when he started fast he could finish strong. His last fight he did pace himself properly, just about every round he had Lacy hurt and I felt he could have KO'd him but didn't want to take the chance. I think it was smart for Taylor listening to his corner because Lacy's only chance was if Taylor seriously ran out of steam. Froch will definitely make it a fast pace and he is use to fighting at 167 his entire career. Now the class of fighters each have fought is not even close. Taylor has fought the best, where Froch has still to face a real opponent, but that does not imply that he can't compete on that level. Taylor's jump to a higher weight class, and his 4 fights he has had serious stamina issues is the reason the line is near even money. I feel Taylor is still the bigger puncher, and he has faced world class opponents, but in this fight he is fighting against a fast paced fighter. It won't be like a methodical Pavlik, or a defensive Hopkins or Winky, or an over-rated Lacy who was no threat at all. I feel Jermain has the speed, power and experience over Froch, but his stamina is a big question here along with Froch's real first test. At first glance this fight looks like great value for Taylor bettors, but Taylor's stamina issues and Froch's fast paced but yet to be really put to the test are two very big question marks. I'm curious to see the weigh-in, and possibly an early post or update on what they will be weighing when they enter the ring. I'm siding towards Taylor because I know what to expect from him, where Froch still remains somewhat questionable. Can Froch bring 12 rounds of pressure against a real opponent? Will Jermain attempt a KO knowing he might burn some late round energy (he didn't against Lacy)? Another look at the fight footage on each, and probably the weigh-in before I commit to this one. If I am going to bet 4 units, I'll probably bet 2 units before fight day, then if I get an early update fight night on what weight they will be entering the ring at, then I'll either hold off if I don't get the information I expected, or I'll wager my other 2 units, risking that if I go with Taylor he will probably be -150 or so come fight time.

I agree about both, paragraphs and the weight. My late bet will depend on what they will weigh when they enter the ring, not on the scales during the weigh-in.

I didn't realize that write-up I did was so long until after I submitted it. I don't do spell checks, or edit posts on here. I just logon and type away if I have anything that has my interest. What makes you call Taylor a bum? Is it a personal issue of hurt feeling when he lost you money on a fight? Do you just want to root for Froch? I'm sincerely curious why you would call him a bum, and I'm assuming you believe he's not a top rate fighter. He's has fought the best, and fighting Pavlik and Hopkins both back to back plus Winky is quite impressive. I feel he has lost some steam in the ring with his stamina, but he is listening to his corner and that is more critical to a fighters success then decreasing in some physical attributes. The Lacy fight showed me that he has the emotional control he lacked previously, because he knocked Lacy around and 9 out of 12 rounds he had Lacy seriously hurt, but he paced himself and looked impressive.

I do think Taylor schools Froch for the first couple of rounds so anyone on Froch should try and click in the bet during the live betting to get a better deal.

 

I don’t think Taylor is stopping Froch. Taylor SAYS he wants the KO but if he finds success with that lunging slightly overhand right of his, he will soon find out Froch is not hurting and the move is costing him precious energy. Remember, in Pavlik vs Taylor II, Taylor was not expending any serious energy in the first 4 rounds but he still faded a bit after that. Taylor might even get a flash knockdown but I see Froch making it through regardless. One day, Froch may be punchdrunk from his open style but he is still in good nick. C’mon Taylor has slept anyone for awhile, and the last time he tried to lay Pavlik down early, he wasted energy and lost.

 

Those who think Froch will find Taylor unhittable, consider this. Ever since Taylor got KO’ed by Pavlik, he has changed his defence reflexes and postures. Nowadays, when he senses something incoming, he just raises a turtle style jailguard. However, he is no Winky and doesn’t have the late micro adjustments of the turtleshell. In fact, he just kinda stands there with his arms up. Now, Pavlik & Lacy did not work it out but I suspect it can be done. Pavlik is robotic, predictable and throws mostly straightish shots. Froch is a more thoughtful guy than Pavlik. Froch has good hooks and uppercuts which might trouble Taylor’s tight turtle.

 

If Taylor burns energy going for the early KO and fails to put Froch out, Froch could turn the tide late just from workrate. Boxrec stats show Taylor as taller and reachier but from what I can see, Froch has about 1cm of height on him. Remember, a man is about an inch taller in the morning due to spinal compression, the stats can be wrong.

Well I'm not betting Froch after all. The more video and punchcounting I do, the more it seems Froch ain't got the output to fluster and tire Taylor.
A small bet on the draw maybe as If they match well, they will draw, and If Froch wins by bit, perhaps the result will still read a draw.
Taylor has been treated well by the judges in the past...

betfiar has 3000 quid to back taylor at 1.96 or in americqan -105 knock yoursleves out boys. As isaid in a previous post i backed the draw at 37-1. The draw is now 40 which has to be great value if you can see it going the distance.
