~ Calzaghe wins by 12 rnd decision -102 (2.5 Units)
A very important factor to include in this fight is the next possible match-up. Would the public prefer a long awaited rematch of Roy Jones Jr vs Bernard Hopkins? Yes they would, and much more than a Calzaghe/Hopkins rematch. So, where does the next big money fight fall... with Roy Jones. If this fight is not a very decisive win or knock out by Calzaghe, it wouldn't be the first time the score cards didn't match the majority opinion and subjective analysis of the people and the experts. It is a point I wanted express the the Calzaghe bettors, not to discourage them, but to give them a better idea of what this fight amounts to for promoters.
Quotes: Hopkins: "I’m tired of this soap opera,... So let’s just do the rematch and get it over once and for all, OK? I don’t want to go to my grave without fighting Jones again." Calzaghe: "I’ve been boxing for 25 years and I don’t want to fight anymore,... I don’t have anything more to achieve." Jones: "But I don’t have time to wait for Bernard Hopkins. I already beat him, so why would I want to fight him again?"
If given the opportunity after a Jones win and the public calling for a Hopkins rematch, it would be hard to believe that Jones would not take it (even if believing he had a slim chance at winning). He beat Tarver the first time, what did he have to prove fighting him a second time... getting KOd?
After all that, I still am going with Calzaghe.

I've noticed the majority of posters have picked Jones, and some for Jones to win by KO. The last guy Jones KOd was over 6 years ago. He has gotten very gun shy since his first loss to Tarver. Watching him ringside against Trinidad he was gun shy at the beginning, and Tito was slow, couldn't bring his power to the weight class and not in good condition. I don't doubt that Roy Jones has the physical ability to KO Calzaghe, but it's his mindset. He plays it safe, and after 2 brutal KOs, he still has that in his mind. Although Calzaghe doesn't carry one punch power, he still hits hard enough to hurt opponents and apparently Hopkins felt that. I don't agree with other posters that he's hungry again... if that was the case he would have rematched Hopkins. I don't doubt that Roy had the physical ability still and he is a great intellectual boxer, but he is more afraid of getting KOd then his passion for winning. As far as Calzaghe being tailor made for Jones, I disagree. Besides being active with top contenders, Joe's handspeed, boxing ability and constant work pace will be the difference. Enjoy the fight!

Great points. A valid view from the other side is what makes Covers great at times. I just wish people would stop saying Calzaghe has a handspeed advantage. It just isn't true....

If we are talking single shot hand speed I agree, which is really what Jones throws a lot of these days. When it comes to throwing combinations though I do give Zags the nod.

I never stated that Calzaghe had faster hands, but they are the fastest Jones has faced. Also, I agree with Fullbrights about combos, because Calzaghe isn't afraid to get hit so he lets his hands go, like Jones use to.

Nice performance by Calzaghe. I was suprised to see so many posters here thought Jones would win, or win by KO, but it's nice to get different opinions. I think more people wanted to see the Roy Jones of his prime, than actually believing they would... after all, who didn't like watching his brilliance and dominance for years. Retire Jones, you had a great career!

Calzaghe has hurt most off his opponents, but he sticks to his strategy and that's what keeps him winning! Jones is use to bigger guys, so I felt he could hold off even if fatigued and hurt. Also, considering what they said would and could be Jones and Calzaghe last fight, I didn't think they would stop it late in the fight.
