I listed POWER as a huge factor, as well as focus, but how the referee handles the fight and also how the judges score it is going to be the biggest factor.
Referee: Robert Byrd (I recall Byrd being more a judge than a referee.)
Judge 1: Jerry Roth (Age 71; considered HBO's paid under-the-table)
Judge 2: Duane Ford (Age 74; like the DMV license to drive a car, do they have to take an eye test every so often after age 70? lol)
Judge 3: C.J. Ross (She has been judging over 20 years, but has received much criticism; that would put her in the majority!)
No offense to older judges, but you have to wonder how often after a certain age are they valid; this includes eye sight, focus, and all the things that slow down as old age sets in. I'm not even including the facts of diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, etc, etc... Basically, any fight favored to go to the scorecards is in the hands of possibly and in a matter of time incompetent judges. That's great for PPV Mega-Fights! People don't have to even claim corruption, just look at the facts.) FBI agents must retire at age 57, and for good reason. Yes, former agents can be brought back as a contractor such as a counsel adviser, field specialist, etc.
BTW- Roth and Ford both scored the Pacquiao vs JMM II, but Roth had it 115-112 Marquez, and Ford has it 115-112 Pacquiao. That was a much tougher fight to score than the third fight. Many rounds were basically a toss-up, and Manny knocked Marquez down helping him catch-up a few lost rounds, or even making a close round that all judges might have scored 10-9 Marquez and turned in to an easy 10-8 Pacquiao. At those smaller weights Manny was too strong for anyone with such freakish strength. The knockdown was a power knockdown, even though it caught Marquez clean on the chin he was up immediately. That was a late rally for Manny, and Marquez started to ex-change punches not wanting to lose the round or momentum. It was nearing the end of the third round and most fighters would have been out cold. Marquez saw it just as it was too late.
