Can someone say.... on the money?  What heart Maidana showed tonight.  I really thought he was on borrowed time for the majority of the first couple rounds.  Anyone who bet on the dog, great call.  I thought the line on Ortiz was pretty high which is why I stayed away, but I really thought he would get it done seeing as how Maidana looked pretty vulnerable in spots against Kotelnik.  I don't know if Ortiz got caught up in the moment or what, but he really screwed his showcase at Staples up; not taking anything away from Maidana though because he could have easily just cooperated and didn't at all.

Yeah, that was a very strange interview.  It was almost as if the "fight" had been beaten out of him.

Oscar and GBP should be ashamed and embarrassed. They ruined up this kids career with PATHETIC match making. I'm honestly disgusted at how greedy and stupid they are for making this fight. As former fighters you would think those morons now how to handle the kid with kid gloves, no pun inteneded. Why pick a fighter that could basically be considered undefeated (depending on how you view the Kotelnik scoring) and knocked out 24 of 25 of his opponents, regardless of their pedigree.

From the second the bell rang, I instantly thought about Forrest/Mayorga, and how that fight arguably ruined the career of Forrest. Ala Mayorga, Maidana will parlay this victory into a few lucrative fights that will probably set him up for life - although he will get destroyed in every one of them. 

I made a killing tonight, but I feel like I have blood on my hands. I would rather have lost a couple hundred and enjoyed what would have been a great career. Shitbag Oscar... way to live your second career through Ortiz, ruining him forever.

Could you imagine thinking you've made it, dreaming of titles and millions of dollars, then losing it all in less than half an hour? Not just future earnings, but the will to fight again? I've never seen a harder fall from grace in boxing. Hell, any sport for that matter. All because of the people you trusted fucked up.

Of course he would have been exposed at some point, but maybe not if he continued to get what he needed as far as experience. He trusted them and they burned him. Now it's "sorry it didn't work out, shut off the lights before you leave."

Yes they should be embarrassed because they hand selected this opponent but why? So the guy hasn't fought in this country but the one main fight he had against Kotelnik showed this guy was not a bum and a hard puncher as you stated regardless if he fought bums.. he still KNOCKED them out showing this guy has POWER.

This reminds me of Torres/Cotto.. Torres  was a power puncher who was undefeated with all KO's (he was a fill in because someone got hurt) Torres record looked impressive but when you broke it down Torres out of 28 fights only fought 6 guys with winning records.

Regardless.. they were all by KO. Yes Cotto wound up winning.. but he was severely exposed that night Torres dropped him and rocked him, he needed to hit Torres with low blows to win the fight!

Moral of the story is .. never put a guy with a suspect chin against a PURE power puncher...

Personally I'm very happy this happened.. imagine the crap fights we would of had to endure while they build up   Ortiz who was already suspected of having a weak chin.. The guy didn't jab .. brawlers don't last long.. and the mere fact he QUIT shows you what he would have done in the long run. 

His own statements at the end of the fight ended his career, "I got out while I was ahead" "I want to walk while I'm older"  I don't believe I should of been taking those shots.. sounds like a winner to anyone?

The truth is Victor Ortiz is a greedy MORON who was being brought up very well (the right fights for him) with ARUM... he thought Oscar could get him "more money" and didn't like the way he was being brought UP...  he did a scumbag move and filed for "Bankruptcy" so he can get OUT of contract with BOB ARUM.

So he ditched and screwed Arum over who was doing an Excellent JOB bringing him up...Ortiz and his big ego got greedy.. he ditched Arum and signed a MULTI-FIGHT deal with Golden Boy with a $150,000 signing Bonus.

  Why would Ortiz care he is now set for life.. if Oscar wants out his will have to BUY out his contract that he just signed  with Ortiz.

Remember Ortiz came from nothing, so a few million dollars at what 22 years old is more than he would have ever dreamed of.

Clearly seen he believes he doesn't need boxing and shouldn't absorb punches. It's a good way NEVER fight again and get paid... if Oscar wants out he will have to BUY him out..

He quit, and thinks he's some Hollywood bound guy.  Why would he care if he fights or not... he came off like a bandit.. he got $150,000 signing bonus .. and a MULTI-FIGHT contract.. when he was in contract with Arum he had to fight even though it was easy fights he was being brought up the correct way  without being exposed.

"Gets out of Contract" by being a scum bucket files for bankruptcy so by law he is not under contract anymore. All this so he can get a BIG Mega Deal with Oscar... he got what he wanted.. he will get the cash and Oscar gets stiffed for once.. thank god!

You can say that when you have a Multi-fight deal locked in the bank .. and force a greedy Oscar to buy you out.

Maidana is much better than people think, he learned in a few months with a new trainer.. how to throw straight punches.

Why do you think Oscar took the fight.. Maidana before this fight couldn't throw a straight punch .. but he worked on it since the Kotelink fight and even Emmanuel Stewart said well he's a power puncher but he loops them.. guess what.. tonight straight puncher down the pike.

I think Maidana will do very well in this division, he is improving (throwing straight punches as evident tonight).. and the fact that the division is pretty much empty... I see him doing well.

 He showed true heart taking a very strong punchers BEST punch got off the Canvas .. and knocked the hell out of Ortiz.

Think about it, Ortiz was probably the strongest puncher Maidana will ever face, and he beat him. Add that he has a straight punch now, and he will be a very respected man in a barren division.

Kudos to Maidana for exposing Ortiz and earning a great victory.

yes, as a fan that is sad... To see a young prospect lose his manhood and will to fight. It's what makes boxing the best one on one sport. You have to have heart in boxing. That's something you can't teach, and it's the one thing that's stays in the back of the mind of all true fight fans as they watch matches is I wonder how much heart this boxer has. Well tonight, I just realized we need a Heart ranking, they have pound for pound ranking but they don't have a Heart for Heart Ranking. Something to think about because if a young prospect with no heart is fighting a top ten Heart for Heart fighter, then red flags will instantly go up. So i am going to start keeping track from this fight foward on fighters who digg deep fo have heart. So now i will throw in another fighter I think will be in my top ten heart for heart ranking. A test of a true fighter is when HE GETS HIT, can he take it? Answer for Ortiz is NO. He can dish it out but cannot take it.

Both guys are power punchers and boxing is a brutal sport, if he says he's not supposed to be taking punches like that he doesn't belong is the sport of boxing. (He clearly acknowledged he QUIT in the interview, and says "I'm young but I don't think I deserve to be getting beat up like this, I have a lot of thinking to do" .. He didn't quit once he quit twice!

Ortiz is not a "World Champion a USBA belt and a Interim Title Holder"  It was the FIRST time he actually even headlined a fight.

I'm not mad he quit, I'm glad he quit.. not once but twice, one in the ring, and once post fight "I have a lot of thinking to do".

I understand your personal involvement but I'm not hating on him, he was exposed and everyone needs to accept it.

Maidana was getting "waxed" also, in fact Maidana could of easily quit and went back home after 3 knock downs, especially the 3rd known down.

When it came time for Victor Ortiz to receive his punches he bowed out and folded.

We all know boxing is all about fire and wanting it. Ortiz shows NONE of that. What do you think made Maidana get off the canavas? The few bucks he was making for the fight? OR maybe his will and heart.. to keep going.. because he refused to lose.

Again I understand you being upset because you liked him and met him personally.. but it is what it is. Countless boxers had amazing talent.. yet just didn't "WANT" it.

If he felt he fought the wrong game plan, demand a rematch and redeem yourself (after the ko). The thing is Ortiz's first instinct is to HIT back, it's only human. I think he possesses amazing skills and I do believe his chin is suspect more so from being in direct fire.

 I don't believe Ortiz will ever see a puncher like that ever again.. weird they would put him in with a guy (rated #10)  knowing Ortiz's one weakness.. and set him up with another guy's BEST quality.

I don't think Maidana will see a more dangerous opponent  than Ortiz, who can hit as hard as Ortiz and counter as good as Ortiz did. I know you may feel a standard technical boxer would rip apart Maidana  but that division is very thin, at 140 Maidana and Ortiz  are two of the best PUNCHERS.

I do agree he was backing up and he looked as if they should throw in the towel but that's the thing with a puncher.. they always have a chance and the eye cut wasn't bad but the swelling happened in that round so hard for anyone to see it.. that thing ballooned up.

If he could of just survived to the end of the round on boxing instinct he would have showed heart and the fight could of easily been stopped due to the fact he had maybe one more round left before the swelling would have shut it completely.

There would have been an immediate rematch and he could of Torn apart his opponent as he believes he could of done if he didn't brawl.

I still believe they should re-match, although very high risk for BOTH fighters.. more reward for Ortiz as he would redeem himself. Maidana has no reason to rematch except for Oscar tossing him a ton of money so Ortiz can fix the mess they created yes they being OSCAR and Ortiz.

I think you can agree under Arum this fight would have never happened, if it did it would have been a few years from now when Ortiz was more polished.

Also remember when Cotto fought Torres (probably the best power puncher at 140) any other fighter other than Cotto at the time would have been waived off as Cotto was out on his feet... but since this being Cotto and being a champ.. they let it continue imagine if Cotto would have been stopped by the ref or corner.

Power punchers always get the benefit of the doubt when in a situation like that as one punch could counter the other opponent especially a guy going in for the kill without a jab.

I said I question his heart for BOXING many great fighters didn't succeed at boxing because they lacked the heart for boxing. You need that burning fire Like Marquez and Pac-man and all the other fighters who leave it all in the ring.

I don't know why Oscar set up this fight as Oscar fought washed up Tomato Cans for many years.. Yes they were "names" but they were all past their prime and on the brink of retirement..

Oscar I feel took advantage of what seems like a good kid, he speaks proper and seems well mannered and was brutally honest in his interview ( he needs to learn to lie every boxer does it).

At 22 even a genuine person can be turned into a backstabber as Oscar seems to have done with Ortiz against Arum.

Mike Tyson was convinced at a young age that the "white man" was controlling him and Don King made him believe it and ruined him. Mike now acknowledges this wasn't the case and Don King was the one with evil intentions.

I hope this sends a message to other boxers who may be signing with Oscar.. remember when you take that money.. you will be expected to move up quickly on the ladder.. you will not be able to work out your raw talent... and well it's the price you pay for signing with Oscar.. who ironically didn't take a tough fight for many many years after he turned pro. 

 Don't choose instant fame take the  right Promoter who will bring you to the promised land in due time... Arum was getting there no one can deny Ortiz has raw talent .. and was being brought up correctly with Arum.

I would like to see a rematch,  it's the only way Ortiz can redeem himself. This time Ortiz will not exchange the way he did  and maybe more than 10 jabs will be landed between them :)
