Pavlik "almost died" so he stated from a hand infection. He couldn't fight Sergio Martinez due to a staff infection, and the same infection .. happened right before Paul Williams fight...
Now that Martinez and Williams fought, Pavlik is now on PPV fighting a NO named fighter .. HBO paid Pavlik a nice contract to fight REAL fighters and he has done NOTHING but fight tomato cans.
Check this out.

I see Pavlik as a guy who is surely going to slip up and lose to someone he shouldn't. It probably won't be Espino, since he doesn't have alot of power, but with his drinking issues and lack of focus, I think it might be time to bet against Pavlik any time you get odds like this.

Pavlik didnt want the fight Rich that is now CLEARLY apparent. If he loses there is nowhere to go. The Marquee divisions Middeweight and Heavyweight are now the 2 worst divisions in boxing. Pavlik we know will never be the superstar he was once touted. The schooling by B-Hop exposed all Pavliks faults.
I think we will see Williams v Pavlik but I don't think it will be until further down the line. Pavlik as a boxer is screwed. If he goes up there is only Lucian Bute available and he wouild knock Pavliks block of. He can't go down and the only money fight at Middleweight is Paul Williams. A fight he does not believe he can win. His career is in freefall. We will see 2 pointless defences and then the Williams fight then its bye bye Pavlik

Mac not only he fighting a tomato can.. but my main gripe was PPV? You got to be kidding me..
Also on yahoo sports Pavlik says he had Martinez up by 2-3 points and he would have beat Williams easily. Does this guy truly believe this, Martinez poses a problem for almost everyone because of the angles he uses and great stamina..
If Martinez wasn't a cyclist and a soccer player before boxing.. no way could any other guy do what he did for 12 rounds, even Williams was exhausted.
Pavlik could never sustain that type of pace, he's a one dimensional fighter who threw his own career away.
Yes he would have lost against Martinez or Williams.. but at least people would have respected him. Now he's just a joke.
I see Williams fighting Martinez again, the fight was too good too close, granted it may not be in Williams best health interest to take a grueling fight again.. but I think he will beat Martinez a bit easier this time.. (still a tough go though).
I like the way Williams adjusted mid-fight .. seems like he learned a bit from sparring with Quintana. Because the first 4 rounds Williams looked lost and awkward... he got settled in later.
At least now we see why Martinez was ducked by so many.

I've had a STAPH infection and they are no joke, and can easily kill you if you don't keep them in check. Perfectly healthy college athletes have been killed by staph. Pav can't completely close his hand to this day and I really don't think he's afraid of Williams, his camp is just a little wiser not to put him in against a top fighter at less than 100%. Going up 2 weight classes against Hop with bronchitis was not a good idea and he's not going to make the same mistake twice. Williams showed he can be hurt by a solid 154-160 pounder punch and I thought he took too many, flush shots from the awesome Martinez, lucky for Paul, there was no time left when he was hurt in round 1. What a chin on Williams, but it may have been cracked a bit. When Pav catches him with a hard straight right, it will get interesting.

Too bad Pavlik is no Sergio Martinez, maybe more power but, stamina, speed, agility, defense, counter punching.. angles.. shall I keep going? :-)
Pavlik can use all the excuses he wants, yes bronchitis against Hopkins, and a staph infection for so many months. Yet suddenly clear up right after Williams and Martinez fight an epic fight?
If he can barely close his hand now.. he's getting in the ring Dec 19th? That's the reason to choose a tomato can on a PPV fight?
At least be realistic, this fight should NEVER be fought on PPV, Williams/ Martinez Maybe.. but this fight? It's a slap in the fans face.
Why doesn't Pavlik give the real reason why he doesn't fight...
It's called alcohol drugs .. and a bad case of "I got Rich tool fast and just don't give a crap anymore" :-)

punchmaster, nutty is right man, the timing is awful , I mean you can go or you cant go, how can you only go against a tomato can ,,wtf
Because once he cancelled the Williams fight again, the sanctioning body (WBC?) started putting pressure on him to defend his belt or give up the title. If his hand gets through the Espino fight, he'll have no problem fighting Williams

Hey NuttyRich, do you have confirmation/proof that Pavlik has alcohol/drug problems, have you hung out with him? You know how fast internet rumors spread. If you got proof, I'm open to it.
Did I mention anything about the fight should be on PPV with your be realistic comment? That's a whole separate issue and Pavlik didn't ask for it to be on PPV- that's Bob Arums doing. HBO or other major network is not going to take a Pavlik-Espino bout for obvious reasons. The thing I like about Arum is if he goes to the networks and they don't want to do business, he says the heck with it and comes us with his own PPV show for the diehards who want to watch. No once is forcing anyone to buy anything but Arum has put together some great cards in Mexico that the major networks didn't want anything to do with and I was glad to fork over the $24.95..

If this card makes money, Arum will keep doing this with Pavlik. He's been abusing the Mexicans' loyalty for a while, selling them terrible JCC Jr PPVs. Now he's feeding the working-class whites this Pavlik slop. Pavlik's fifteen minutes went by very fast.

It was brought up on yahoo articles (from Respected Columnists) about Pavlik having alcohol and drug problems,and "hanging with the wrong people".
The fight will be broadcast for free as I will be supplying links to the fight.. no one even a die hard fan should pay for this.
Looks like Pavlik has an excuse already, "If" his hand holds up, so what do we have Bronchitis for Hopkins loss, Staph infection (s) for Martinez,Williams, that clears up just AFTER Williams fights Martinez and the hand just in case of a loss?
If you believe Pavlik is fighting because they threatened to take his belt away you are a gullible person. Validimir Klitcho held onto the title for almost 4 years without fighting.
You cannot be stripped if you have an injury, boxing knows he had no injuries he went from small town hero to most hated fighter by his OWN actions.
He really cares about belts, he went to 170 to fight Hopkins, got his ass whipped.. and has never had a fight since. ( A real fight).
This will be his 3rd PPV tomato can .. in 4 fights... (Hopkins destroyed him).
His nick name is perfectly chosen "The Ghost".

Since I know his camp will never read this, I will say this. My sister knows Kelly very well. Jack Loew has been my parents neighbors for years.
Kelly and his brothers get drunk and rowdy all the time in the Youngstown area. Kelly most recently put his hand through a car window.
I never asked if it had anything to do with the staph infection or not. The money is also starting to get the best of him. Although it took awhile.

Kelly Pavlik vs. Miguel Espino, 12 rounds, for Pavlik's
Ring/WBC/WBO middleweight title;
Vanes Martirosyan vs. Willie Lee(I'm not kidding), 10
rounds, junior middleweights;
Samuel Peter vs. Gabe Brown(This isn't a misprint),8? rounds,
heavyweights;
5 dimes doesn't even have a LINE for these fights besides Pavlik being 20-1. I would like to see what Samuel Peter is by KO.. Cannot believe he's fighting 8 rounders now LOL!

Not like it matters much, but it is a split site show, and they are also showing two fights from Mexico, including Soto vs. Chavez. That could be decent.

I'm not exactly sold on Martinez, he makes too many mistakes and think Williams didn't show up like he normally does. Williams was looking to land a big shot early and wrap it up to the point he was leaving himself open badly...the man was antsy and left his composure in training camp. I know he has defense problems, but Williams looked like he did at 16-0 that night.
If I was Williams I would move on, like Jones should have moved on after Tarver I. Move on to a bigger fight. Guys like Martinez will give a lot of guys problems because of his movement. If you can't dial in on a guy like Martinez...could be a bad night. Like Soliman for example...not that good...but always a damned problem locking on.

When I was watching showtime.. I saw Edwin Valero vs Demarco.. (Think Feb or March)that seems like a very intriguing match up.. what do you think?

Valero fights tomorrow in Venezuela. This is from Dan Rafael's chat earlier today:
Rick (Marina)
Is the DeMarco vs Valero a done deal ?
Dan Rafael
(1:00 PM)
According to Shaw, if Valero win this weekend, it's a done deal for Feb. 6 on Showtimne. Will take place in Monterrey, Mexico.
I've always thought that Valero has been way overrated. His power is obviously amazing, but he's sloppy in the ring, and I think the first top guy that fights him is going to expose him. It could be DeMarco. He's looked really good lately.
