Kovalev v Hopkins

Question

I think &#x2B;225 (or &#x2B;200 stateside) on Hopkins is great value. Of course the big problem here is B-Hop is nearly 50 and Kovalev is a concussive puncher. We have seen Jean Pascal knock down B-Hop and if Kovalev catches him the same way it&#x27;s fight over..a 50 year old man can&#x27;t take that kind of power if he lands cleanly. Simple as. The thing is I don&#x27;t think Kovalev will get the shot he needs. Kovalev is massively over rated imo. A poor mans version of GGG. Most of his fights are won before the bell against very average fighters. There is no plan B with him. If you figure out his style, he is pretty much screwed. Jab, double jab hook from the upright stance. Sometimes to the head, sometimes body..Repeat..Such a style is tailor made for Hopkins. He will just pick off Kovalev from distance and everytime Kovalev gets close he will just grab and neutralize him. I think this will be a dreadfully boring fight but it has to be for Hopkins to win. I wouldn&#x27;t stop anyone playing the points but over &#x2B;200 on the cagey veteran is the way to go. Stakes can&#x27;t be large for the simple fact the man is 50..but I believe B-Hop adds to his legend against a powerful but very limited fighter...

I&#x27;m on Hopkins, as well. Hopkins has fought 65 times and he&#x2019;s never been knocked out.  Just look at the resume of Hopkins. It&#x27;s incredibly impressive. The thing that scares me about my bet is Kovalev has killed someone with his punching power. The first moments of the fight are going to be nail biting.

I have no clue. The only fight I can compare it to is George Foreman vs. Michael Moorer.Moorer was 35-0 - twenty years younger - a 3 to 1 favorite and lost...65 fighters have tired to knock Hopkins out and all 65 failed. If Hopkins loses it will likely be by decision.

I remember when Hopkins was a legit threat and would pull off many surprises. He would usually have a plan and see weaknesses in his opponents and exploit them in a big way. He was a lot younger then. He wouldn&#x27;t just take this fight and not have seen something he could exploit. But will he be able to do that at this point? I never seen him embarrass himself but in his last fight he did look rather old. I would take Kovalev or not wager. GL

YES. B-hop is a LEGEND.

YES. B-hop was Hall of Fame ready like 20 years ago.

YES. B-hop is the ageless wonder & the alien.

However what he is NOT is the Executioner. He is NOT in his PRIME cleaning out the middleweight division or fighting super middleweights.

He is fighting on of the hardest hitting LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT'S in the entire division. Arguably the #1 guy at 175!

To top it all off Kovalev is also in his prime. A different kind of beast that Hopkins has seen.

So don't expect a traditional 12 round rubiks cube paced fight for a Hopkins decision. Expect BOMBS to be flying. And it won't really matter where the bombs land. They will still do plenty of damage

I honestly had a dream two nights ago that Bernard actually had Kovalev out on his feet and was taunting him while going in for the kill..

Serious question is could Bernard actually be an alien.

I want to bet Bernard so badly, but my stones are obviously underdeveloped.

I have no problem with the guys disagreeing and can see your points of view. Bernard looked 'old' at the weigh in yesterday. Maybe his ego has got the better of him.

I just don't think Kovalev is that good. I get it with GGG. I just don't see what u guys are seeing when it comes to Kovalev. Hard handed, basic European stance. This style is not hard to figure out and for sure a 40 yer old Hopkins absolutely schools this guy.

The guy to beating Kovalev is be a defensive;y skilled fighter. No fear. B-Hop has both those in his favour and I would bet big ONLY for the fact of the mans age. This could be embarrassing as many as u are saying. B-Hop gets hit hard, realizes he wants out and pulls a Chad Dawson..

I can only hope Ward moves up because if he does I will bet large on him..There is a fight coming soon I have a far better grasp off..

I&#x27;ve made some good money in the past on Hopkins and I respect him but I can&#x27;t see him winning this one. He&#x27;s bit off a little bit more than he can chew especially at the age of 50.This will be a high stress fight and Hopkins would need to fight a mistake free fight which I can&#x27;t see happening. Hopkins throws a right hand and leans all the way in and tries to hold...I&#x27;m sure Kovalev has seen this and will time his punches to this.The one glaring weakness I do see in Kovalev is that he needs to reset any time he goes on offense. What I mean is that he RAREly counter punches. Usually when his opponents punch he sort of just waits and backs straight up.that being said I don&#x27;t think Kovalev needs to worry about Hopkins power and will press Hopkins ...wouldn&#x27;t be surprised if Hopkins looks for a way out with a fake injury.

Fight will not go the distance -140 big for me. One of two outcomes IMO, Kovalev by KO or Hopkins realizes he made a big mistake and looks for a way out (like in the Dawson fight). I don't see how Hopkins goes the full 12 here. Hopkins has mindf*cked many opponents into fighting at his pace and in the style he wants. Not happening here IMO.

And on the undercard Ali gets folded IMO.

4 rounds in and i&#x27;ve called this badly wrong. Firstly Kovalev is HUGE. I mean a monsterous lightweight. He looks like a cruiser weight in there..Hopkins doesn&#x27;t have the footwork he used to which is to be expected. To the Kovalev guys u called the fight spot on...I feel alot more confident on Eubank Saunders and Stiverne against Wilder will be a big bet in favour of the champ..
