He clearly offered Ortiz a rematch so he could avoid Pacquiao. He doesn't want to take any chance he could lose. That's why I said when they signed the deal Mayweather knows and fights the guy after a big victory, and even with a layoff as I said his game is on another planet it's so much higher. Below are NFL bets.

esplanade: I totally agree. This Ortiz fight was all hype. I have a few threads that listed fighters Mayweather could have fought but decided to fight past prime opponents, under sized champions, extremely over matched opponents. Read the post I wrote or just read below the link and it is the same. Enjoy! https://www.covers.com/postingforum/post01/showmessage.aspx?spt=39&sub=101106776 Mayweather without a doubt possess all the skills. Understanding boxing and taking on fights here and there to minimze risk is about strategy and longevity, but many fighters use this as a tool to manufacture wins. At his prime age of 27 Mayweather's past 10 opponents were: Shane Mosley 38 (past prime;prior he had 4 long tough fights ) Juan Manuel Marquez 36 (past prime;fight weight was to high) Ricky Hatton 29 (good fighter;not a true welterweight) Oscar De La Hoya 34 (past prime;wasn't great outside lightweight) Carlos Manuel Baldomir 35 (past prime;decent fighter) Zab Judah 28 (under-achiever, never beat a very good fighter) Sharmba Mitchell 35 (journeyman just above average) Arturo Gatti 33 (warrior but lacked any speed) Henry Bruseles 24 (nc) DeMarcus Corley 29 (nc) The last 8 opponents averaged an age of 33.5 and his last fight he was 33 years old. Here is a list of ten popular fighter than could have been considered as opponents and he should have fought at least one of them: Manny Pacquiao (Simple:He wants no part of Manny) Miguel Cotto (Cotto is mentally tough as they come) Antonion Margarito (Tall, great stamina and relentless) Sergio Mora (To much uncertainty) Paul Williams (Tall, good hand speed and stamina and relentless) Sergio Martinez (Fast, strong and great stamina) Winky Wright (Great technician and causes problems for most fighters) Joshua Clottey (Another physical & mental tough fighter) Amir Khan (Great fighter and fast) Andre Berto (Fast hands and combinations) Vernon Forrest (RIP: Tall and Fast) Out of all these listed, I feel Floyd should have fought Cotto. Mayweather is bigger, faster, and better all around except for ring confidence. Yes Mayweather has confidence, but Cotto in battle doesn't even consider the word losing or pain and injury. Mayweather is more talk and his fight selection proves it. If he was so confident, he would have taken on one, several or most that I listed. After the Castillo fight he really changed his attitude on TV about fighting the best fighters and put a nice media spin stating he was the best and he had nothing to prove. It reminds me of a poker online scandal just revealed days ago. The accused admitted he was cheating but 5 months prior in an interview he stated he was cheated by close friends so at this point people felt sorry for him and trusted him while all along he was the one cheating his close friends. Back to Mayweather and his poor selection of fighters should show a lack of his confidence in his abilities and shouldn't even be considered. Potential and possessing ability is one thing, going out and performing against the very best is another. Manny does it, Mayweather doesn't! Unlike great fighters who are in a division that at the time lacks talent are in an unfortunate situation, Mayweather had all the choices to make real fights but used his 24/7 promos and side antics to sell tickets on his ability and not the actual competitiveness of the bout. Mayweather did fight a very well conditioned Mosley (38), but Mosley is and always has been a counter-puncher. So when you have a fighter like Margarito attacking you with wid punches it's a perfect fit for you, but having a fast highly skilled defensive fighter that throws and moves, his one dimensional style gets exposed and that is what exactly happened.

Straight:(6-3-2) +18.1 Units Other Wager: -10 Units Total: +8.1 Units
(The early games lost a few close ones, but almost swept the board in the later games. For the day, showed +8.1 units of profit and won 67% of straight wagers.) I hope many of you won on last nights event (Mayweather) and did well in the NFL!

I am a guy that always learns from his mistakes, betting on the NFL is a crap shoot, honestly, I do not know 1 consistant winner who bets on NFL, college football is a game that can be beat, although I know the NFL, I have learned that betting the NFL from week to week just is not very profitable for me or for anyone that I have ever known actually, the competition is so close, in college, you usually know who is going to win, it's just a matter of if they will cover the spread or not. college is the way to go, I think that everyone would agree that they have made much more betting on college than they have on the NFL, It's most likely not close either, the sports books get a hard on when sunday comes, the make more on sunday then all of the other days of the week combined, I would know as I used to work at one, making 1 or 2 NFL bets a week can be profitable any more than that can be very risky, make it about money guys, not about the thrill of the action, (I worked at betus for about 5 months last year, the money they racked in on sunday was incredible)

thesoulpurpose: I said 100% same thing. Only time I won consistent was when I had 6 offshore sportsbooks and bet middles. I would guage which way the public would bet, and then bet the other way. Also, the NFL is the best sport to middle because the lines are so accurate so you hit more often. Middling after week 4 is better because the first few weeks linesmakers make the most mistakes, but after a few weeks they are on the money. That's how you take a strength and make it into a weakness. Unfortunately with the FBI online indictments, Pinnacle and other previous sportsbooks don't take U.S. players and they have very few lines. I remember when Pinnacle posted 30 boxing bouts with odds and props weekly. Now they have maybe 2 a month, and MMA (usually the entire UFC card). I miss betting opening lines -105. I would get a TEAM A -6 +102 on Tuesday at Pinnacle, then Sunday I would bet TEAM B +8 +104 at Canbet (used -107 for lines). Not only would I making 3% automatically, I could win a pure middle on 7, and side if TEAM A wins by 6 or 8. Those day are gone. I know the world's foremost linesmakers and they don't bet NFL. When I was a kid I watched college football and won every week only to lose it on NFL the next day! I also like regular bettor who lay -110 and think the juice is 10%...LOL - wrong, it's 4.54%, and if you bet the same amount you need wo win 52.38% to break even. I'm sure the seasoned bettors know the math but suprisingly many don't. Similar to house games at a casino. I had about 60 emails from NFL junkies who wanted to bet their winnings on last nights fight, so I gave them a lucky 67% on straight wagers (+8.0 Units).

The money purse is not going to increase that much from now and into the future, perhaps it may only decrease. Mayweather's opponents have been 2nd rate, either out-classed or over-the-hill. Their was a time he could have fought nearly a dozen opponents that would have been more exciting, but he plays it safe and Manny is not safe to him. He has the ability to beat anyone, but chooses least resistance. At what point does he fight Manny? Why fight Ortiz again, except to beat him easily again. That controversy he took advantage of was perfecy excuse to act honorable and offer Ortiz a rematch, while pocketing more money and having very little risk!
