Pascal v Hopkins

Guys,

Looking forward to this one. The build up to the first fight was very respectful and cordial. Not so this time! Great buildup and its clear both guys don't like each other.

I see why people want to pick Hopkins. He CLEARLY won the first fight. B-Hop in his prime would absolutely school a guy like Pascal. Pascal also has clear stamina problems. The guy is a great athlete but no matter how hard you train, you can't get stamina. You either have it or you don't and Pascal doesn't. Therefore he seems tailor made for B-Hop.

However, I will be taking Pascal @-140. B-Hops legs are gone IMO. I mean Pascal knocked him down twice in the first fight and there were signs in his past few fights that B-hops legs are gone. He has a lot of pressure too trying to be the world oldest champion ever. He keeps talking about, he is actually obsessed with it. I don't care who the ref and the judges are but B-Hop will have to win DECISEVELY to get a decision in Canada. I can't see that happening. I think we will see a mirror image of the first fight with Pascal winning the early rounds and B-Hop coming on strong in the middle rounds. Expect more conterversy, but I can't take a 46 year old guy fighting in Canada no matter who he is..If it taking place in Vegas, yeah I go with B-Hop but I think he has to win BIG to take the title from the champion in Canada. I just can't see that happening..

Pascal for me..Putting him in a double with James Degale to get me evens...

Anyone can get knocked down when they're punched in the back of the head.

This is a Golden Boy promotion this time.  All European judges, no canadian judges or officials.

Who's "legs were gone" in the first fight?  Pascal is a fader in fights whereas Hopkins only gets stronger as fights progress.

I disagree about the win decisively argument.  If anything, I think Hopkins will this time get the benefit of the close rounds b/c the common consensus was he got screwed the first time around.

Can Pascal really rely on 2 more flash knockdowns again?  Without them can you really see him outmanuevering and outadjusting the old fox over 12 rounds?

Does Pascal have the boxing brain to make the necessary adjustments to win this fight against the guy who adjusts better than anyone in the sport?

If you ask me there are more questions to be answered about Jean Pascal in this fight than there are Hopkins.

I dont understand, if you're gonna play on Pascal, why you wouldnt just bet on him to win by any decision at +135 instead of laying -140.  He's not knocking Hopkins out, dont be ridiculous.  Hopkins has never been in danger in any fight in his entire career.

Bernard Hopkins is not getting knocked out.  Go ahead and waste your money on it.

Tlml, how about providing some actual analysis.  Everything you have spewed so far has been nonsense.

I agree 5 years ago Bhop would have wiped the floor up with Pascal.


Sadly this is not 5 years ago. If you go back to the Roy Jones fight Hopkins was OFF balance  a lot. Take the Pascal fight Hopkins dropped twice and it wasn't a crushing shot either just seems like he was over whelmed/bit unsteady (Heck even sloppy).

Why this fight is so good (to watch mainly).Counter punchers usually fare better so big advantage for Hopkins. Hopkins was tired at the end of the fight granted he's was 45 at the time.

There is NO reason why Pascal has stamina issues, it's been that way for a while so not a fluke. Only thing I can think of is muscles he's pretty well built maybe it slows him down later in the fights.

I saw the weigh in, and Hopkins didn't look well. I know he was able to rehydrate the previous fight and look decent, but not so sure about this time.

Are his legs shot? For 46 NO, For fighting a guy in his 20's  they can LOOK SHOT. Remember people 46.

Pascal gives hopkins a chance at all times because he isn't a VERY busy fighter, so Hopkins can be able to pace himself (you know the counter punching and a fighting the last 45 seconds of every round.


Even though Hopkins has the better advantages   (hand speed, counter punching (HUGE in rematches).

I just don't see his legs lasting 12 rounds, he also got dropped twice on shots that weren't even real power shots. if you see later in the fight Hopkins took much harder punches than he did on the two knock downs.

If Pascal can use his weight on Hopkins, and don't make it an inside fight.,. he can win and possibly get a knock out.  I'm not playing this fight but if I were to I would give the slight nod to Pascal.

Watch the fight with Roy Jones and Pascal...his legs COULD be going, not so much with getting KO'd but getting POWER on his best asset (Counter punching).

Hopkins always made people pay via great leverage on counter punching, Just don't feel he has it at this age. More of "strong arm punches".

Good luck to everyone, again I'm staying away from this hard to lay money on Hokins based on his last 2 fights and well Pascal is nothing special I think we all agree 5 years AGO WOULD have schooled this guy.

Rich, you typically know your stuff.  I dont think Hopkins took the Jones fight seriously at all.  He knew Roy couldnt beat him that nite.  He went thru the motions in a sh*tshow of a fight.

As for the Hopkins-Pascal fight, I thought Bernard look terrific.  He looked motivated.  Now I think he's even more motivated. The first knockdown in Rd 1, watch it on YouTube, Hopkins was winning that round clearly then Pascal whacks him in the back of the head in the closing secs of the round.  That was a BS knockdown.

The second knockdown was legit.  From that point on, the fight wasnt even close.  Hopkins was timing him and banging him to the body, and making him fight on the inside, which Pascal hates.  The old man badly out-threw and out-landed the younger guy.  How does that happen? 

Do you think Pascal can win this fight if he doesnt score more than 1 knockdown?

I cant believe all the people I hear saying Pascal can knock out Bernard.  That is ludicrous.  Flash knockdowns are very different from having a guy hurt.  The guy hasnt been hurt in a fight in 18 yrs.

 

hmmm .......you predicted this line would be Hopkins -200 I predicted it would be Pascal -150 , you think the second fight will be just like the first , I think you're the one that has no clue what's going on. After this fight you'll be sitting there thinking "how did this happen?" like every other square does when they lose something they thought was a "lock"

Just b/c you were closer on the line doesnt mean you can analyze what's going on inside the ring.

If Jean Pascal fights a different style fight...it will be the first time in his career he has done such a thing.  Hopkins has made a career of changing up tactics during and after fights.  We've already seen Pascal is incapable of altering tactics mid-fight.  Let's see how he reacts this time around once Bernard starts showing him something he didnt show him the first fight...

 

You dont need to watch anything dope I was refering to this fight is going to go down like Peter-Toney II, the first fight was really close but in the second fight the younger, less tech fighter beat the older fighter, the same is going to happen tonight.

In the first fight I think Pascal took Hopkins lightly but this time around I think it Hopkins do that. I really think you're being blinded by the first fight and thats why I threw Peter-Toney II out there but you are a stuborn square you isnt going to realize they're dead wrong until the fights over so............

You do realize your talking Bernard Hopkins and Knock downs... how many times has that ever been discussed?. Chin can be great but if the legs are a bit unsteady both for TAKING and giving punches makes a big difference.


I don't even think either one was a "hard punch" it was just Hopkins being off balance with his legs.

Bernard is the one who does the bullying and dirty tactics.

I hardly think he took ROY lightly, fact is both guys made a joke out of boxing that night. How many times did Bernard go to his knees  from a push or a claim he was hit behind the head or a low blow.

Loss of leg power means a lot when taking or giving a punch especially for counter punchers like Hopkins. Using  his legs to stay out of trouble will be harder also.

Again I'm not betting this fight and wish everyone good luck. Hope we get a good fight~!


                                           

Pascal really whooped his ass in there.

If the ref wasnt incompetent and actually ruled knockdowns that were knockdowns it would've been a wipeout on the cards.

 

I wouldn't say whipped I would use the term "SCHOOLED".

Pascal in the first fight fought toe to toe, actually Hopkins allowed the fight to be that way.

Second time around... Hopkins uses his mental edge and ring experience to rough up Pascal.

He would throw one punch and hold and make the ref break it up.Pascal after a few rounds couldn't adjust to those tactics.

Don't get me wrong Hopkins landed some nice punches, but mostly one good shot and hold and Pascal had no answer.

Credit to Hopkins he found a way to adjust from the first fight.

He clearly won this fight.


Pascal wants a 3rd fight and it will NEVER happen, he has lost in many eyes twice to Hopkins.

Once Hopkins gives a guy praise in the ring means he's done with you.
