WTF is nobody talking about this fight? This fight has all the ingredients to be a Fight-of-the-year candidate. Rios is a mean pressure fighter, but Peterson seems to be schooled on the inside and outside with respectable power.
As far as betting, I'm HUGE on Peterson. HUGE! Rios to me simply is not schooled enough to take on someone of Peterson's caliber. Peterson has the advantage in speed, power, height, reach, and IQ. But Rios' pressure can give anyone a difficult time.

I was thinking about this last week, but never got around to checking Rios out. I admit, I'm a Peterson fan. Whats Houston saying?
The fighwriter said that he would put money on Rios if his slight underdog odds were better. He likes the over, but he also cautioned that -200 is too steep. Its a no-play for Houston.
I've done research on this fight and I'm HUGE on Peterson. I've got him in almost ALL of my parlays. That's how confident I am. Rios is overrated. I like Rios' pressure but his defense is WAAAAYY too leaky and his power isn't intimidating enough.
Just my opinion. If anyone trails me and loses, I don't want here any criticism. BITCHES!!!

I'm a big fan of Rios, but I think Peterson is too skilled. Don't know how Peterson will react to the pressure though. No bet for me. Just rooting for Rios.

I ended up reading Graham's preview on this. He made a point that stuck with me about how who starts off how. Saw some film of Rios and looked to be have a pressure style. Records show Rios has been consistent, regarding time between fights, whereas there is a bit of a gap with Peterson. Sometimes the more talented guy can get out-hustled by a lesser opponent. My track record with the Peterson's is betting against them and had my finger on Rios but didn't play.
After seeing the opening montage on Peterson I was thinking, hey maybe its his night, looks like hbo is interested. Then I see the unofficial weigh-in that show Peterson at 139 and Rios at 152. I'm thinking, what are these guys fighting at 140? Nope, 135. Then I see Rios' entourage, Margarito, Vargas clan, Tecate everywhere...Top Rank banners. I'm thinking, Peterson better show up.
Good start from Peterson. I think those right uppercuts softened Peterson up a bit in the clinch. It looked to me the weight advantage was definitely a key to victory tonight for Rios. Peterson is the better talent, but jesus christ...he fought a jr. middleweight with two confirmed cheaters in his corner. Some of those low-blows were on the line imo. Tough break for Peterson.

Are you high? They were straight cock shots. He took the coward way out because he was getting his ass kicked.

Rios' IQ and timing looked much improved since his last fights. His trainer Roberto Garcia said he hadn't been putting 100% because he was a party animal before he got serious with his girl. Garcia warned of a more dangerous Rios.
Peterson was hurt very early in this fight with uppercuts. Rios' early onslaught affected his game. Peterson had the confidence to stay mostly relaxed in his shoulder roll style (usually its good to stay relaxed) but he kept getting hit by hard shots. Rios has always been a volume pressure fighter but he's definitely improved in his timing, shot selection and counter punching. What I liked most in Rios was the fact that he throw so many shots but stayed relatively relaxed. Rios at times threw "bullshit punches" to set up his harder blows. Pressure fighters usually have to be "put in their place" and Peterson threw some nice shots but they came too few and far between
Call me crazy but I think if Peterson would have started with a jab-heavy gameplan he could have won. I think Peterson's timing of Rios was getting better as the fight progessed and with an early jab-heavy gameplan he wouldn't have taken much of Rios' early onslaught.
Call me crazy again but I think Peterson was hurting Rios to the body.
If Peterson asks for an immediate rematch I'd pick Peterson again.

You would lose again. The problem with the jab theory is that he doesn't have a good enough jab to make it work. It's not a "stiff" jab that would stop anyone from coming straight forward. Also, he wouldn't land his jab and move out of the way, so he wouldn't be able to carry rounds based on his jabbing.
Rios would force him to fight the same type of fight 10/10 times. Peterson would be both physically and MENTALLY beat down again. I usually don't find "head" issues to be a problem. However, Peterson didn't listen to his corner and looked like he checked out of that fight well before it was over.

I disagree with your opinion of Peterson's jab. I think Peterson has a great jab when he chooses to utilize it. Peterson wasn't ready for Rios' pressure tonight, but I think if Peterson isn't pyschologically devastated, this loss will only make him smarter and stronger.

You like Peterson in a rematch. Tell you what, if that happens give me Rios and I will bet you 10 grand. What on earth, from watching that fight tonight, makes you think Peterson can beat him? He got lit the fuck up.

Peterson would be a nice underdog in a rematch so why take your even odds when I could make more money with a bookie. What did I see? I saw a fighter in Peterson who didn't fight at his best abilities and a fighter in Rios who did. I can't see Rios fighting any better in a rematch unless Peterson lets the loss affect him pschologically.
I feel Peterson can jab and dictate distance much better than he showed, and Peterson also has the IQ to stay away from the uppercuts that hurt him early. If the fight didn't affect his confidence, I also think Peterson will be ready to fight at a faster pace than in the first fight. On paper this wasn't a big upset( Peterson -150), but a big upset is what I saw. The stars were aligned for Rios tonight.
