Can't see an upset here. Ortiz just too talented for a average Peterson.
Darchinyan-Mares
Would love Darchinyan if this was a trash talking contest. I think Victor is too small & too old for the up & coming Mares. If Darchinyan can't dictate the pace he is usually not effective. Can't see him bullying the stronger Mares around at bantam weight. A division which is much more too the liking of the younger boxer. If Darchinyan can't knock you out..He is unlikely too be able to win. KOing Mares seems like a LOOONGGG SHOT tonight. Mares is a well deserving favorite.
Khan-Maidana
This is a very tricky fight & I think might surprise many a boxing fan. No doubt Khan merits being favored in this match, but I think he is being slightly overpriced. In order for Khan to win he has to be constantly on top of his boxing game. There is much less room IMO for a mistake on his behalf then there is for Maidana. Maidana is the much harder puncher & it only takes one shot to turn the fight his way or score a KO. It is essential for Khan to stay on the outside & utilize his jab to control distance. If he tries to get on the inside or stops to cover up in the middle of the ring...... He could be in big trouble. I am not willing to lay better then 3-1 on a boxer who has to fight the perfect fight in order to prevail. I'd much sooner prefer to take the heavy handed puncher & wait for a mistake on the part of the cautious boxer. Remember it only takes one mistake for Khan to lose by KO. Value tells me to bet Maidana.
Wrapping Up
Ortiz -350 2 Units
Mares -210 2 Units
Maidana +3-1 2 Units
Passing on the Perez fight.

Love Mares in that fight. I agree with everything you said on that fight. Younger, stronger, fresher. I think he may even KO Vic.
Yep....... There's nothing better then watching a loud mouth boxer getting popped in the face. Darchinyan claims he will breeze through this tournament, but I think he's the one who catches a beating tonight. We'll See.

1. Ortiz will probably never be a real world class fighter if he draws with a Peterson brother.
2. Cry baby & sore loser Darchinyan is nuts if he thinks he won that fight.
3. Khan proved he has a big heart & a suspect chin. Maidana blew the fight in the 8Th rd, when he didn't close the show after having Khan badly hurt in the 7Th... (easy for me to say).
All & all a great night of boxing even though it was a wash financially.
On to next week.

Lucky to break even tonight. What was learned?

I thought Vic won the fight, although it was close. Had he not run out of gas, he would won by several rounds. Still don't like him much though.
Ortiz got it without lube. Don't know what fight was scored, but he won easily on my card.
Maidana is a clone of Arthur Abraham at 140. You can't miss him, but you can't stop him. The fact he was able to overcome those body shots and bounce back was interesting.
I don't know who could beat Khan at 140. Pretty much everyone not named Maidana would have been gone inside of 6 the way he was fighting early on.
