SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CP) - UFC plans to come to Canada have hit another snag, with UFC president Dana White pointing the finger at hockey as the reason why.
Last month, White said the mixed martial arts organization was coming to Montreal in October. But on Saturday night, after UFC 73, he said he was having problem getting a date at the Bell Centre.
"You guys have got too much frigging hockey up there," he told a Canadian reporter at the post-fight news conference. "As soon as you cancel some hockey games, we'll be up there." The UFC had originally planned to hold a Montreal show on April 7 but the card was called off last December. At the time White said: "There were a lot of different things that made that fight fall apart."
Now it appears, the UFC won't be north of the border until 2008.
"I think so. We're still working on it," White said Saturday.

I love my hockey but I was really hoping to see the UFC present a big time fight up north, Montreal is only a short drive from Ottawa so I was pumped when I first heard they were looking to promote a big event there.
Hopefully this will pan out sometime soon!!
I do think this hockey thing is a stupid excuse though, schedule on in for when the Habs are out of town or during the off season, sounds like there may have been bigger issues than scheduling conflicts.
