that I have seen.My thoughts are Mayorga will win this one by KO .Vargas IMO is as punch drunk just as Gatti was .Mayorga will make this a brawl as he always does and Vargas will not be able to take the punishment.
Vargas is the exact kind of fighter that Mayorga wants to fight and will look good against. Also dont forget if Mayorga wins this fight there is a rematch with Forrest waiting .Vargas on the otherside only has retirement to look foward too.

You could make just as much of an argument for Mayorga being shot as you could for Vargas. Mayorga is still earning paydays from his 2 wins at 147 over Forrest in 2003.
This fight is being fought at a catch weight of 162 pounds which suits Vargas more than Mayorga as he is the bigger man. Mayorga made all his noise at 147 and has only fought at middleweight once, when he fought Trinidad in 2004. Mayorga's power has not moved up in weight very well.
There is a reason that Oscar and Felix both targeted Ricardo when coming back from long layoffs. He is easy to look good against if you are skilled. Even though Vargas is long in the tooth he still has a lot of boxing skill. I like that Mayorga is working with Orlando Cuellar (Glen Johnson's trainer) now in addition to Stacy McKinley. Cuellar will get him in very good condition as he does all his guys. You usually don't outwork a Cuellar fighter,
Vargas is back working with Eduardo Garcia and I think that is also a good move; they will get back to the basics of what Vargas does well and not use that stupid defensive style Danny Smith tried to implement.
This is a very tough fight to bet in my opinion. Vargas is retiring after it and you know he doesn't want to go out a loser, that is the sole reason he is taking this fight and to be honest with you the reason I think he picked Mayorga as his opponent.
In conclusion both are faded and this is a very tough fight to bet, but if I had to make a play I would take Vargas because he is so much more suited for the weight.

wild man mayorga could land one, or could go out cold in the first round,,better value may be found mid september on jorge barrios,,looks like a solid play at + 350

Good write-up! It's a real shit fight anyway you look at it though.
I couldn't disagree more. Mayorga's fights are always fun and both of these guys are wreckless. Should be a lot of fun, although both are shot fighters IMO, with Mayorga being more shot.

Yeah, it should be an entertaining fight even though it's meaningless. Ricardo is close to shot, but so is Vargas and Ricardo is always entertaining regardless. That being said I have a hard time validating it being on PPV and know that I won't be purchasing it. The televised undercard is not much either, right now plans are to show two undercard bouts; a mismatch of Cintron-Feliciano and a who cares matchup between Roman Karmazin and Luca Messi. I have to question why anyone would pay $44.95 for those three fights.
