Posting a little earlier than usual this week after watching the line on this one drop over the last several days. The Olympian from Oakland certainly has his work cut out for himself here against the aggressive Colombian. That said, he will be fighting on his home turf against a fighter that may have lost a few steps following his crushing 4th round defeat to Arthur Abraham last June. I would never count out a guy like Miranda - well, at least not at this stage of his career, but I do think Ward's handlers know what they are doing in matching their fighter with Pantera in what will be his most dangerous fight to date. While I can see this fight going a number of different ways, I think it makes the most sense for Ward to use his speed to stay on the outside and attempt to box his way to a points win. Ward is improving in the power department with each bout and there is the chance he catches Miranda with something big (and vice versa) but I see both men utilizing a more cautious approach with so much at stake. For Ward, it's not only his biggest test to date, it's by far and away his most risky match up. He's been rocked before by far less powerful fighters (Kost and Boone) and will need to be at his defensive best in order to avoid the Colombian's crushing jabs. I can see Ward taking advantage of Miranda's over-aggressive tendencies by refusing to get caught up in a firefight on the inside. If Ward has a chance to go for the kill, he will obviously have to take it. I'm willing to take the risk, however, that Ward uses his superior boxing abilities to guide himself to what will be his biggest win to date via a hard fought decision.
Wow I see this fight NOT going the distance, Miranda at 28 in a previous write I wrote his last 2 fights, he came in at 173 almost 174 and almost 179, this was a guy before Pavlik was coming in UNDER 160.
Looks like he gave up on his boxing career, he was always a come forward fighter anyways who has a punch, but any pure technically sound boxer can dispose of him quickly.
He knows the canvas very well lately, I think he is going after Ward very early as he knows Ward has had trouble EARLY in fights. I think after the 4th if Ward is still there, Ward will demolish Miranda who I believe didn't even train for this fight.
He fought some BUM Joey Vegas in UK! March 20th, and came in at almost 179, I don't even think was was "after the weigh in" this was before (according to boxrec.com).
It's only Mid may, the mere fact he fought so recently, (I think it was a 1st round tko) at such a heavy fat weight, in the UK shows Miranda is done and WARD's manager knows exactly what he's doing.
Once Pavlik Disposed of him and Abraham at 168 and (no broken jaw this time) Miranda gave up on winning goes for KO's now and he is NOT a distance fighter anymore.
I believe he either takes Ward out quickly because Ward can be caught early, after 4 rounds Ward disposes of Miranda, how long I don't know but NO way the Bell rings for the final round!
I envision that fight being a tko stoppage in favor of Ward.
But the fight to NOT go the Distance at -220 is too sweet to pass up! Covers both fighters in case Miranda does get lucky, in case he doesn't Ward covers by disposing of the over weight Miranda.
I wish you the best of luck, personally Edison Miranda is one fighter who cannot go the distance anymore. Coming in at 173 and 179 .. shows lack of respect for the sport and himself. After 4 rounds Miranda doesn't have a prayer.
Good Luck!
