Dorticos has big power (21 KO’s in 22 fights) but by committing to power punching, he leaves himself vulnerable to being hit and dropped himself. He’s tall and lanky, has power in each hand and tends to load-up and wing his right hand. He likes to control the action with his jab and has a respectable defense. He can be hit easily but fights to the end. Dorticos seminal fight took place this past February vs Murat Gassiev. Dorticos did well by controlling the action with his jab and was leading by points after the first four rounds. As the fight progressed, Gassiev came on, and in the last round, Dorticos was battered, knocked through the ropes and stopped.
Masternak is a veteran with 45 fights, 41 wins, and he has been stopped once. Masternak's last loss was in 2015 when he fought Tony Bellew. It was a competitive fight, both were hurt, but Masternak looked gone in the closing seconds, and Bellew won a UD by rounds. Masternak also has SD losses to Youri Kalenga, who he just beat in a rematch, and Johnny Muller, he was also stopped against Grigory Drozd in 2013. Masternak also has a good quick jab, likes to throw combinations and is fairly aggressive. Decent chin and adept at rolling with punches. Does not have one punch-power but follows-up well.
Dorticos is the favorite, he is a former world champion, but this is a competitive fight. Masternak lost to Kalenga, but he beat him this past April, and Dorticos didn't have it all his own way against Kalenga as he was losing that fight after 9 rounds on the cards. Masternak proved against Bellew that he has the grit, engine to have an all action fight and if he shows up like he did against Bellew, he is definitely capable of winning this fight.
The odds are far too high favoring Dorticos and don’t reflect the competitive nature of the fight. The thing is, Dorticos tends to get into wars and I believe that Masternak will be willing. It will be a test of will (and chins) for each fighter. In the end, Dorticos wins and possibly by late KO. If you do like Masternak, take him to win by decision.
