CFL, eh!

 It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

My current record is 30- 16, which is pretty good.

ON THE DOWNSIDE

I currently sit 15th in the Covers CFL contest, which also looks good, but I was in fourth place two weeks ago.

Since then I am 4-4 in the previous week, and 2-4 currently this week, so the trend is not my friend.

ON THE UPSIDE:

i did receive my Covers cap in the mail, a reward for going 8-0 in week 4!

My picks for Saturday:

Edmonton -1, over 48.

This is an emotionally charged regional matchup with a huge history behind it. When emotions take charge, I get an "all in" vibe from both teams, and I like the over when emotion takes over a game. I booked it at 48, but my most recent audit showed availability at 46.5!

As for the side, I'll go with Edmonton, who have an in tact starting QB against a backup, and a market that perceives Calgary to be better than they are.

There is a saying that perception beats reality every time, but on the field of play the opposite is true.

In my opinion the perception of Calgary is about to get crushed by the reality of Edmonton.

Then again what do I know, I'm just a guy with a Covers hat and a 2-4 record this week.

Well, this week was a kick in the nuts as I continued to drop in the CFL contest.

But it is important to always look at what went wrong after a 2-6 week, so here we go.

Toronto 28 Winnipeg 27

Despite Winnipeg losing to Hamilton the previous week, I had every confidence that Winnipeg would cover a - 14 pt spread. Boy was I wrong, however, I did hit the over 48.5 on the last play of the game.

Saskatchewan 24 Hamilton 19

Another ofer here, as Hamilton failed to cover as a +3 road dog, giving up a late TD.

Even worse, I had the over, which was never seriously in play.

Ottawa 30 - Montreal 27

I hit the over here, but Montreal was a big disappointment as a seven point fave they were not even close

Calgary 24 - Edmonton 18

It doesn't get any better from here, as I served up another ofer to cap off a 2-6 week, pushing me down to 25th in the CFL contest.

Nonetheless, I haven't shed a tear since Col. Henry Blake failed to get home from Korea, and we need to look forward.

Calgary @ Winnipeg (Winnipeg has burned me lately, but they still have my respect)

Sask @ Montreal (Leaning to the home team, if the price is right)

Ottawa @ Edmonton ( Lots more respect for the western side)

BC @ Hamilton (Kale vs. Steel, you figure it out)

So off we go with another week in the CFL.

The reason I love this league is that there are only four games per week. If you combine both over/ unders and the spread picks, the maximum choice is eight picks per week.

I dunno nothing and I won't pretend to be an expert.

Having said that, I think Winnipeg are the best team in the CFL, and that they are more than a little embarassed ragarding their last two games.

In contrast, Calgary are living in hope.

Winnipeg is angry and Calgary is grateful.

I'm gonna play the over and take the home team.

Calgary loses, but they do cover, while the over cashes.

ATS 12-13  O/U 19-6 Overall: 31-19 

Starting QB Adams out for Montreal, Pipnik gets the start. On principle alone, I cannot wager on a guy named Pipnik.

Seriously though, both teams have respectable D, and I look for the QB factor to give the edge to the Riders

I'll lay the 2.5 and take the under 49.5

As for the night bite, I'll lay the nine and take the over 48.

2-2 on Friday, so whatever.

As my ISP is currently experiencing a widespread outage and for reasons unknown to me Covers has not posted a line in the CFL contest, the rest is conjecture in an uncertain world.

If possible,  I'm taking the HAM sandwich and the under.

Until the Lions O line shows even a remote interest in protecting  their prized QB, I have no faith. Perhaps things have improved during the bye week, but I'll believe when I see it.

In the meantime I'm just hoping to get back online and that the Covers crew actually wake up and realize that they have yet to post a selection in the CFL contest. 

Well, 3-5 for the week, which I suppose is better than the 2-6 I put up last week.

Seems to me that parity is now in vogue, and that taking the points might be a good move going forward.

Until I prove otherwise the idea of fading me is probably a good one.
