The Lions picked up a much needed win against the Alouettes after losing 2 straight, The Riders beat the Bombers in a Labor Day Classic and the first overtime game of the series, the Argos smashed the Ti-Cats in the face and the Stamps rallied in the 4th quarter for a huge come from behind win against the Elks.
Writeups are going to be a bit shorter with the NFL season starting tomorrow and other things happening in life. All picks moneyline:
OTTAWA The Ti-Cats looked like a mess on Labor Day and now are on a short week with only 3 days off before they have to travel to Ottawa who is coming off their bye week well rested. Teams are now 11-3 off the bye after the Riders edged out the Bombers last week. Butler couldn't get going against the Argos with 63 yards on 11 carries and if you can slow him down Hamilton really struggles relying on Powell throwing the ball. Ottawa also excels at stopping the run so if they can shut down Butler then Hamilton will really struggle to move the ball on offense. Ottawa's liability on defense is their secondary which Hamilton can't take advantage of.
Ottawa is coming off their bye week on a 5 game losing streak and they need this game bad. In Ottawa's final 7 games of the year, this is the only game where they are playing a team under .500. They have the toughest remaining schedule in the league after this game. We will see a desperate Ottawa team Friday night. Desperation for Ottawa, exhaustion for Hamilton. 24-16 RedBlacks

TORONTO Montreal struggles to score touchdowns and that is not a good thing to struggle with going against the juggernaut that is the Argonauts. Montreal can move the ball steadily down the field but always settle for field goals. Austin Mack had a huge game last week, hauling in 7 receptions for 143 yards. Fajardo is nothing more then your average QB with happy feet. Montreal continues to lose to the top 3 teams in the league but beats everyone else. The trend continues here. Montreal has 2 extra days rest over Toronto in this one as the Alouettes played on Saturday and Toronto on Monday. Toronto should still be well rested and up for this game having already had 3 bye weeks and played the least amount of games so far of any of the teams this year. Toronto can also further solidify locking down 1st place in the East.
Toronto started out fast last week building a 17-0 lead in the 1st quarter but after that started to slow down. Perhaps the intense heat got to them for awhile. They started to play and take the game more serious scoring 17 points in the 4th quarter. Toronto sort of reminds me of the Chiefs/NFL. They play around with you not really trying until they need to and then they punch you in the face. Kelly didn't play great going 15/23 for 201 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs. Ouellette even threw a TD pass. Toronto's defense can be shotty at times, but they won't have any issues handling Fajardo. If Toronto can shut down Stanbeck and put this game in Fajardos hands it could get ugly. 33-19 Argos
WINNIPEG What a game last week. The Riders started the game with an onside kick and recovered it which set the tone for the rest of the game. The Riders are looking hungry, motivated and playing with a ton of energy. What changed since their clobbering in Montreal (due to poor scheduling by the CFL)? Dolegala is getting more and more comfortable and looks super chill. He threw for 326 yards against the Bombers defense which is super impressive. The Riders had no run game to speak of and did have trouble punching it in the endzone but still managed to put up 32 points. Lauther went 5/5 in the field goal department. What is Pete Roberson thinking head-butting Collaros?! Holy shit I couldn't believe it! He will not be playing in this game as he got suspended for 1 game.
Winnipeg was fuming after the headbutt near the end of the game last week. They are PISSED. I said it last week that this was the Riders best chance to beat the Bombers and if they do they are going to get slapped around this week. Now you add in an even more fuming Bombers team and Collaros coming off a loss like that they are going to be out for blood. Thank God College Football started because as a Rider fan this is going to be an ugly game to watch (like the Montreal game a few weeks ago). The Riders have now beaten 2 of the top 3 teams in consecutive games. 38-17 Bombers

EDMONTON It sure looked without a doubt that Edmonton was going to win this game. Going into the 4th quarter it was 28-13 for the Elks and they managed to blow their load and give another game away. Calgary scored 22 points in the 4th quarter to steal a win from the Elks. Tre Ford is an athletic freak and should have been the starter since week 1, but he can't run as much as he has been or else he won't last very long/get injured. Get this: Ford threw for 137 yards last week and rushed for 135! He almost had as many passing yards as rushing yards. Ford had 46 more yards then their starting RB!
What a huge win for the Stamps. Maier stayed composed and level headed despite being down more then 2 TDs going into the 4th, throwing for 315 yards with 1 INT. No TD passes though. Watching this whole game you did not think at one point in the 1st 3 quarters that the Stamps would even have a shot at winning this game, but the Elks can't play a full 60 minute game and showed it again. Calgary converted on two 3rd and long conversions that led to touchdowns in the 4th. This game is a tricky one, it can go either way but I am going with the Elks as they look like the much better and motivated team and let that game slip away from them last week. Also the Elks have the X-factor: Mr. Ford. 29-26 Elks
Good luck!
TEASER:2-1 last week, 14-4 overall
TEASER (6 pts): TOR -4.5 WPG -2.5(last week I had SK +14.5 penciled in and changed it to WPG -0.5)!
TOP OFFENSIVE GRADE: Saskatchewan Roughriders - Five other teams could have been also put here as it was an offensive showing across the league on Labor Day week. I am going with the Riders as what a 3rd string QB did against a top Bombers defense is eye-opening. Dolegala looked poised and calm in the pocket and casually threw for 326 yards spreading the ball out to all of his WRs.
TOP DEFENSIVE GRADE: BC Lions - Since it was such a high scoring week, BC is the team to go with holding Montreal to 25 points, 2 TDs and a plethora of field goals. Toronto came in a close 2nd but Montreal's offense is stronger then Hamilton's so I am going with BC.

BYE WEEK:BC Lions - The Lions needed that win bad last week against the Alouettes. If they lost that game they would be on a 3 game losing streak going into their bye and not feeling good about themselves. Now they look ahead with their next 3 games being winnable playing the RedBlacks, Elks and Riders. BC is a great team but they have to not let egos get in the way. BC has a very strong passing game and are a great tackling/swarming team on defense. They'll be just fine, but their downfall will likely come to the Bombers in the West Finals.
POWER RANKINGS AFTER WEEK 13 (# in brackets shows previous weeks ranking): 1)Toronto (1) 2)Winnipeg (2) 3)BC (3) 4)Saskatchewan (5) 5)Montreal (4) 6)Calgary (6) 7)Edmonton (8) 8)Hamilton (7) 9)Ottawa (9)
4 changes this week. Toronto remains at 1 and will be until another team can take them down with Kelly playing the whole game. Winnipeg remains at 2 with a tight OT loss last week. BC remains at 3 with a huge win in Montreal. Saskatchewan moves up to 4 after beating 2 of the top 3 teams over the past few weeks. Montreal drops to 5 still not able to beat a top 3 team although they now have the same record as the Riders at 6-5. Calgary remains at 6 with a huge come from behind win against the Elks. Edmonton moves up 1 spot to 7 even though they lost, they are a much more impressive/motivated team then Hamilton is. Hamilton drops to 8 after an uninspiring loss to the Argos and the RedBlacks remain in 9 coming off their bye. If RedBlacks beat the Ti-Cats this week then they'll swap spots in my power rankings next week. Going into week 11 the Riders were 7th in my power rankings and since then they've moved up to 4th.

Thanks for the write ups. Always a good read
