The RedBlacks put it to the Riders in what was a much more lopsided game then the final score indicated, the Elks never covered the spread due to a 41 yard missed field goal in what was a high scoring affair, the Alouettes continue to beat the basement dwelling teams and took down the Stamps and the Argos beat the Ti-Cats for the 4th time this year in convincing fashion while resting some players.
Week 17, all picks moneyline with ATS/spread discussion below:
WINNIPEG The Argos easily dispatched the Ti-Cats last week while resting some starters including A.J. Ouellette and Andrew Harris, sweeping the season series 4-0 while beating Hamilton by an average of 15 points. It's too bad Toronto has nothing to play for as this was the most anticipated game of the season so far. Backup Cameron Dukes took first team reps in practice on Tuesday. It looks like Dinwiddie will be resting starters on a rotational basis for the rest of the regular season. Chad Kelly will be on the sidelines to start the game but could see action on a couple of drives. The Argos will be without McManis, Peters and Phillips already, with Ouellette available for the game. Toronto has gone 10-3 against the spread this year with an average scoring margin of +12.4 points. They come out fast and strong and break their opponents spirits early in games. But this is not a spot to bet on the Argos as they are not playing for anything and are resting players.
The Bombers are coming off a bye after losing to Hamilton the week before. Teams are now 12-5 coming out of the bye week after the Stamps lost to the Alouettes last week. Teams coming off the bye and playing at home are 10-4. You can also call this a revenge game for the Bombers as the last time these two teams met was in last years Grey Cup when Toronto upset Winnipeg. Schoen was a limited participant on Wednesday and is listed as questionable, same goes for Jeffcoat. Winnipeg has only covered the spread 3 times in their last 9 games. You have to love Winnipeg in this spot. Revenge game, off the bye week, lost their game before the bye week, at home, and Toronto not playing for anything and resting players. Winnipeg also needs to win this game to keep BC off their backs for 1st in the West as we will assume BC will beat the Riders in the game following this one. Winnipeg covers -7.5. 40-17 Bombers

BC My Riders are a mess. They need to fire the head coach, offensive and defensive coordinators and the general manager. Next year those 4 guys better be gone. Dickenson can't coach nor motivate his players, continues to make boneheaded decisions in game and does not discipline his players. There is no accountability in the Riders locker room. They gave up 5 turnovers and 5 sacks to Ottawa last week. The Riders are lucky that the Stamps and Elks lost, keeping their 2 game lead on 3rd in the West and a playoff spot. The Riders have a 82.59% chance to make the playoffs. Hickson had a great game filling in for the injured Morrow, rushing for 77 yards on 9 carries. The Riders defense is last in the CFL giving up 30.4 PPG with that number jumping up to 34.8 PPG their last 8 games. The Riders have given up 721 yards rushing in the last 3 weeks. That's 240 yards/game! They were trailing Ottawa 36-14 with 1:50 remaining in the game last week when Alford took one to the house, the Riders recovered an onside kick, got another TD and 2 point conversion but it was too little too late.
The Lions punched their ticket to the playoffs last week with 4 games left to play, holding Tre Ford to a season low 43 yards rushing in their win over the Elks last week. The Lions have one of the top offenses in the league and have scored at least 34 points or more in their last 3 games. They could be even better now that Adams best WR Dominique Rhymes is back from injury after missing the last 6 games. While the Lions offense has been rolling, their defense has taken a step back. Their 1st 7 games the Lions were holding opponents to 13.4 PPG, but over the last 7 games that number ballooned to 30.6 PPG! BC covers -10. 34-18 Lions
MONTREAL The Alouettes punched their trip to the postseason with a win over the Stamps last week. They finally established Stanbeck feeding him 14 carries for 81 yards. Fajardo added 252 yards through the air with 1 TD and 1 INT. The trend for Montreal continues...able to beat all of the teams below them, but can't beat any of the teams above them. This is Montreal's 10th consecutive game in a row without a bye week.
Ottawa came to play last week against the Riders. Crum was efficient throwing for 243 yards and more importantly Williams got fed with 22 carries for 136 yards. Ottawa is winless against the East division, going 0-6 against the East this year. Believe it or not the RedBlacks are averaging a league high 136 rushing yards per game, but their passing offense is the worst in the CFL. Ottawa also has a pretty lengthy injury report this week and they only have a 1.75% chance to make the playoffs. Ottawa will continue their trend of losing to the East, where Montreal will continue their trend of beating competition under them. Montreal covers -2. 26-22 Alouettes
HAMILTON The Stamps looked terrible last week coming off the bye. They turned the ball over 4 times including twice in the endzone and Maier took 4 sacks. Carey rushed 10 times for 70 yards and Mills added 3 carries for 35 yards. Why didn't both of these backs get fed more?! They're both averaging 7+ yards a carry! The Stamps have now only won 1 of their last 6 games and have a 15.20% of making the playoffs. With a weak defense, Calgary not running the ball more and Maier regressing, Calgary is not a team to bet on.
Hamilton also did not play well last week but to their defense were playing the juggernaut Argos. Powell threw for 334 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs and Butler did nothing on the ground with 13 carries on 32 yards. Hamilton is a more complete team then Calgary and Powell is actually showing improvement where Maier is not. Hamilton covers -1. 28-20 Tiger-Cats

TEASER (7 pts): 1-1 last week, 19-7 overall (lost on HAM +14.5 last week by half a point due to an intentional grounding in the endzone which resulted in a safety. It was my fault only teasing 5 points, should have teased it to at least 6). WPG -0.5 BC -3
TOP OFFENSIVE GRADE: BC Lions- Ottawa wasn't far behind but I am going with BC. BC needed to run the ball more and they sure did and had great balance last week. Mizzell had 16 carries for 112 yards and 2 TDs with Adams adding 54 yards on the ground on 7 carries. Adams threw for 265 yards with 2 TDs and 2 INTs and spread the ball around to all of his WRs.
TOP DEFENSIVE GRADE: Montreal Alouettes - Toronto was a close 2nd but going with Montreal, they turned the Stamps over 4 times last week (twice in the endzone) and sacked Maier 4 times. They held Calgary (who was coming off their bye and should have played with more fire and desperation) to only 1 TD and 11 points in Montreal's 9th consecutive game without a bye.
BYE WEEK: Edmonton Elks - life has been rejuvenated into the whole organization and fans of the Elks ever since Tre Ford took the field, although he got sacked 7 times last week against BC. Edmonton sits at 4-11 with 3 games remaining leaving them with only a 1.60% chance of making the playoffs. They won't make the playoffs this year since Jones took too long to bench Cornelius and start Tre, but they'll be a playoff team come next year.
POWER RANKINGS AFTER WEEK 16 (# in brackets shows previous weeks ranking): 1)Toronto (1) 2)Winnipeg (2) 3)BC (3) 4)Montreal (7) 5)Hamilton (4) 6)Saskatchewan (6) 7)Edmonton (5) 8)Ottawa (9) 9)Calgary (8)
Five changes again this week. The top 3 remain the same again with Toronto and BC winning and Winnipeg on a bye. Montreal jumps up to 4 from 7 with an impressive win against Calgary. Hamilton drops 1 spot from 4 to 5 after losing to the Argos and Montreal winning, and the Riders stay at 6 even though they lost they are a minimum of 2 games or more ahead of Ottawa, Edmonton and Calgary. Edmonton drops from 5 to 7 after losing to BC in a must win game to keep their playoff hopes alive which are now gone. Ottawa moves up 1 spot from 9 to 8 with a huge win over the Riders and Calgary moves from 8 into the basement after losing a must win game last week and now losing 5 of their last 6 games. One could argue about my rankings 6-8 but since we are getting closer to the postseason I am starting to seperate the playoff teams from non-playoff teams.
Good luck!
