Just about everything fell perfectly into place for Edmonton last week. The offense played as well as they possibly could have putting up 42 points with Ricky Ray only having 6 incompletions while the offense also did not turn the ball over once. There's really nowhere to go but down from that performance, especially considering it came against a Saskatchewan defense in complete disarray as not only were they switching to a new defense but they were without Hawkins, Freeman, and Kornegay, arguably the best three players in each level of their defense. The Hamilton defense they play this week is much, much better than Saskatchewan.
Speaking of defense, I am not sold on this Edmonton unit one bit. I think they will be one of the worst 2 defenses in the league when it is all said and done. They only gave up 28 last week thanks to getting 4 turnovers but they were chewed up per play both against the run and pass and gave up over 400 total yards.
Hamilton was awful last week there is no doubt about it as they lost outright as a big fav and were shutout in the 2nd half of their home opener. That wasn't a great spot for them last week as they have proven over the years that they do not handle expectations or the favorites role well. I expect a nice bounce back performance here off of that home stinker. It will also be interesting to see how Edmonton reacts this week to being the talk of the league. This team was shit for a couple years but now all of a sudden they are in 1st place and everyone's nice surprise story. Head coach Kavis Reed was preaching "Let's sneak up on them" last week referring to the fact that no one expects anything from Edmonton. One week later that is thrown out the window.
