I have played the Argo's tonight +10.5 may add more if the line climbs.
This looks ugly but the East in the CFL is weak so it is what it is.
If you want the breakdown on film of Matthews here it is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeqahH1z6vY
If you look back at his CFL stats not that much stands out as a passer. He is a young QB from the Ivy league and learning his way. As I look at his CFL stats there is something that stand out and that is he finds the endzone with his legs.
He has just over 200 passing attempts and 50 rushing attempts. His rushing yards are not impressive but in those 50 rushing attempts he has 9 TD's.
16 Td's combined rushing and passing and 9 INT's.
looking over his work in 2015 ( his rookie year) he came in mop up time early in the year when Callaros was healthy. He was with Hamilton at the time. In his first start he was horrible 3 INT and ) TD's but I will throw that one out. In his next start he was much better as Hamilton covered as 8 point chalk against awful Saskatchewan 30-15. Bottom line is if he was or is a horrible QB they could have lost the game, but he wan with 3 TD"s so I like that.
The following week he started against Montreal and completed 21 of 25 in a win over the Al's 23-11. It was not that close as the Al's scored a last second TD. If not for that score it was 23-5 Ticats.
He threw 1 TD and no picks. No picks in back to back starts !
The next weeks start was against BC and he didn't play well. 22 of 32 and 2 TD's and @ INT's. 270 yards so that is good. He followed this poor effort up with another poor effort and he didn't see the field again. I dont know if he got injured or what but 2015 didn't end well.
2015 he started 5 games and was 2-3 and in those losses he was a 2 point home dog to the Stamps and lost by 3 barely missing.
He was a home favored in his next 2 starts and won and covered ( both were poor teams ) he did get the job done so he can do it!
He got destroyed by BC and then lost 6-12 Home against Ottawa and that ended the season.
2016 He didn't see any action until the final week when he played part of the game.
Without seeing the film and just going by the stats he can play at Durrants level. He can throw the games away just like Durrant can and he can also make plays and runs for scores.
I am basing this all on the stats as I have no recall of seeing hime play 2 years ago.
There are 2 keys for me in this game. The Al's play a slow running game with Sutton back. The clock is going to roll. Durrant can be piss poor so that can help as well.
The thing about Matthews is he can win games he already did it as 2-3 record as a starter. To give him 10.5 in this game is much too many and I am very certain this is going to be a close game!
Argo's +10.5 for me
