New year and it's the same story for the Cats. Over the last few years when their backs have been against the wall they have usually stepped up and played well. When they've been expected to roll they have played like shit. This is very close to a backs against the wall game for the Hammer looking to avoid losing 3 in a row. Another plus for this team in my opinion at the exact right time is the insertion of Avon Cobourne in at RB. Yeah he's not the player Chevon Walker is, I get that, but there are other aspects to playing football than just what happens on the field. Cobourne is a veteran, he's a leader, he's very vocal and is not afraid to get in people faces, in fact he relishes it. This is the exact type of firecracker the Cats need right now to light a fire under their asses. The last two games they have been soft and sloppy as hell.
Montreal is rolling but often when the whole team steps up in star players absences (Whittaker, Richardson last week) there is a hangover the next week when the stars come back. My theory is twofold. #1. The returning players aren't completely running full cylinder yet and #2 The team lets up because "we won without them so of course we're going to win with them". Montreal's defense has looked to have improved but let's take that with a grain of salt. Two weeks ago they played Alex Brink. Last week it was Steven Jyles. Nuff said.
