The CFL is finally here again and usually that signals for me to start getting ready for the NFL and College Football but while the college boys will be starting soon the NFL is still iffy at best. Either way, I did well last year in the CFL as my record indicates (26-12 +4267 - This is documented at another site but just bringing this up because I didn't post at Covers last year) but my problem with it is that I just don't handicap it much once the other football starts. I'll try to stay with it this year and will start with a big selection tonight:
491 British Columbia +6 1/2 -1.22 $366 to win $300 & British Columbia +2.15 Money Line $100 to win $215-The Alouettes have won two straight Grey Cups but they have had a tremendous roster shift this year as they come into tonight's game with new WR's and a new RB as Avon Cobourne left for Hamilton. I'm not saying that Montreal hasn't retooled as they still have super QB Anthony Calvillo to lead them but you have to wonder if the hunger will be there after two straight Grey Cup wins. British Columbia was one of the hottest teams down the stretch last year in the CFL as they won 7 of their last 10 games and barely missed a chance to play in the Grey Cup as they lost a tense game against Saskatchewan. I don't put a lot of confidence in preseason games but British Columbia was very impressive in shutting down good offenses in Calgary and Saskatchewas and they do possess one of the best secondaries that the CFL has to offer. Montreal was beaten by Hamilton in their last preseason game 57-20 and seemed to have problems in special teams play as well as they allowed two kick returnes for TD's. The Lions have always performed well against Montreal as they are 24-10 ATS in the series since 1996 and a even more impressive 13-4 in games played at Montreal over the same period. BC is also 42-21 ATS as an underdog when installed as an underdog of 3 1/2 to 9 points since 1996 and with the preseason performances, the overhaul in Montreal's team and the trends I'm making a larger play for me tonight in the CFL opener.
Best of luck to everyone today, have a great Thursday.
