Basically these are subjective (my opinion) rankings...who would win heads up on a neutral field right now.
1. Montreal (1)- the NE Patriots of the Canadian league. Offense is roooolling along with serious weapons at QB, 4-5 WR AND RB. Calvillio has quick release but that OL gives him plenty of time to throw. I have a feeling the Als will name their score against weaker Ds plenty of times this year. They have been OK but not great on their D.
2. Calgary (2) - no changes here, Stamps are a little nicked up but they will have their offense on track. Veteran teams can be slow starters. Still my favorite to win the west.
3. BC Lions (t-4) Well despite being 0-2 against tough sched, the passing game and QB Lulay has had its moments. He has missed throws and his WRs have had dropsies in others. HC Buono has struggled mightily. Major coaching question marks. Not even trying to establish the run here. Major secondary concerns and injuries mounting up on D. Teams ranked from #3-8, all of them have their flaws.
4. Edmonton (7) -- biggest surprise to this point, albeit easier schedule early. Ricky Ray and the offense have played very well -- so far. Though the patchwork fixes would make them dysfunctional. Let's take a hard look at the next 3 games -- BC, at Calgary, Toronto -- little harder
5. Toronto (t-4) Thought it would be possible to win with D and special teams NFL style but Cleo's vintage performance last week is making me question that. Major issues to shore up this week because they cost themselves the game. HC Barker?????
6. Saskatchewan (3) -- have looked closer to really bad, than marginally good, but 2 tough teams to open. D is not rushing the passer and putting the DBs on an island -- and getting torched. Offense has been somewhat capable 28 and 25 points (more than Hamilton's 16 and 10)
7. Winnipeg (8) - scrappy, defense flies to the ball. 7 sacks vs Toronto. Hence with all the pressure DBs covered very well and hawked the ball. The schedule toughens a big the next 3 so the jury is still out. The offense is brutal with no downfield threats
8. Hamilton (t-4) in disarray on offense at the moment, pending QB controversy, too bad because the defense hasn't been THAT bad ... just lost to WIN and EDM though ouch. Must get things turned around quick starting at home against 0-2 SAK
