The time has come and, with no disrespect to the First Four, I can’t wait to get things tipped tomorrow. This will be the 30th year in a row I’ll be planted in front of a tv(s) for the tournament. While this might show my age, several of those years include faking being sick so I could miss school. And not college, those were easy days to skip class.
Anyway, this thread will be focused on the bracket and any future bets I place on tournament props and futures. I’m in a bunch of other non-traditional pools - Calcutta auction, player pool, Seed 8 (points based on seed and advancement) and of course a bunch of brackets. Trying to place primary focus on bets through my book - individual games and future wagers.
Be back in a bit with some futuees, some not fully up given the Fiest Four hasn’t wrapped up, so I expect my book to offer a full suite tonight/tomorrow morning

Texas Tech to not make Sweet 16 +150 (5 units)
A couple reasons why I’m playing this. First, it’s diddixult for non-elite teams to make back to back runs to the Elite 8. That has less to do with physical talent and more to do with mental and emotional struggles. You essentially become the hunted. Second, I won’t sent that the Red Raiders defense is good, but how good is it? This was a very down year for the Big 12. Kansas wasn’t as good. Oklahoma wasn’t as good. Baylor wasn’t as good. West Virginia wasn’t as good. Iowa State wasn’t as good. Texas wasn’t as good. And I’m not talking record, I’m talking on both ends of the floor. TTech played a schedule of diluted offenses and defenses that were inconsistent at best. I think Nirthern Kentucky will be frustrating and maybe they get past them, but the transition to Buffalo will be downright filthy to overcome. Even, in the event Vuffalo fails to get there, Arizona St and Saint Johns will still offer the exact opposite of what they will see with NoKent. And in fact, different then they have seen all season.
Futures, to me, aren’t about paying tax, but rather finding value in the odds. I see it here and I’m diving in with both feet.

I am not playing any futures for the Tourney (because I always get killed, not because of the tax) and as each game unfolds - well - everything changes.
I picked Texas Tech in one bracket over Michigan based on prior technical analysis - not fundamental. This due to the seeding which we always know is "off" to say the least (Vegas will tell you). I like the #2 and #3 to power through the #7, #14, #15 and #11.
Nevada s scary though.
So in the West I've got Murray State over Marquette and think Buffalo is a little darling this year. That being said I think the winner of Texas Tech/Michigan might just beat Gonzaga.
For me these players being so young and on such a big stage anything can happen. I guess you being older than the hills remember the fab 5 timeout technical foul on Chris Webber.

Not a lot of love for the Zags on the forum. I really think they could win it all this year. But TT scares me in E8.
Brackets game strategy note: I have two brackets in a pool of 100. I'm picking Duke to miss the final 4 (MSU instead) in both. I think Duke could stumble and likely half the field would be boxed out of the pool. As an added bonus I get to root against Duke. It's risk but the numbers support it from a game theory standpoint.
Love to hear more bracket plays from everyone...
