UCSB is tied for first w/ 2 other teams (UCI & UCR). Most think UCSB has been solid in recent years, but imo Gauchos really hasn’t been a team of the past…especially last several games. They’ve lost to top tier conference teams in UCR, UCI, and CSUF by an avg margin of 12 points…2 of them being @ home!
Why Davis? They’re sleeper play % the Big West. Currently sitting @ the 6 spot & needing a big win tonight to help secure a bye in the 1st round. On top of this, they’ve lost by an average of 4 points to BW #1/2 teams in UCI & UCR….remember UCSB lost to both UCI & UCR by 11!
The risk: UCSB strength in this game will be in the paint. They’re a bigger team than Davis, & Gauchos relies heavily with their 4/5 spots…couple ex P12 players! If Gauchos control the paint, it’ll be over…overall a small risk imo. Last game rebounding was fairly even.
The bigger risk imo will be how Davis plays defense and if they can be more physical on the defensive end. I know Pepper will do his thing offensively (22ppg…leads BW), question is, can they get back playing defense after a bucket. They need to prevent from exchanging buckets…their overall weakness imo.
Overall, I think Davis can pull one off Vs a softer perimeter team un UCSB. Defensively I think they make stops, and offensively they’ll have an advantage shooting deep @ home.

Tough game to predict…1 of these 2 will for sure represent the BW in the tourney. Senior night for UCR and their top 2 play makers are seniors…special night. I also always root for UCI just because I have family & friends that attended.

I feel public has had a good overall perception on how UCSB program has played in the last few years. Gauchos as Pick em’, -1, etc seems pretty easy, but line definitely raises flags based on what I’ve see.
could of should of…but content Davis pulls a win tonight.
