baylor -2?

this is another one i dont get baylor is better in the conference at home and tex am has lost 2 striaght road games by 54 points total.

This is pretty much a "must win" for Texas A&M with Kansas on deck. Lose against Baylor, and the Aggies can pretty much kiss their NCAA hopes goodbye. They will be looking to avenge losing to the Bears at home earlier this season.
 
Also a huge game for Baylor, as it is Senior Night and a win basically assures them of a NCAA Tournament berth. Baylor has Texas Tech on the road to end the season. Game will be a sellout and the Ferrell Center will be rockin.
 
Baylor beat A&M in 5 OT's in College Station...this game will be an absolute battle.
 
I think Baylor -2 is just about right for the spread. I can't wait for this game.

The spread is right. Oddsmakers feel Texas A&M is the better team (they have more talent, that's for sure), but Baylor is favored because they are playing at home. This is a tough game because both teams HAVE to win it. A&M is probably a lock for the tourney, but their seeding drops with every game they play, and they should lose to Kansas, so this game is important. If Baylor loses this game they are pretty much done though, so it's anyones ball game in my opinion. Other better games on the board.

Your statements couldn't be ANY more incorrect. A&M is the one fighting for their tournament lives. Baylor is tied for 3rd in the Big XII standings with Kansas State (going into tonight) and holds the tie breaker over KSU having beat them already. I would certainly argue your statement that "A&M has more talent, that's for sure". Baylor already beat the Aggies in College Station. The Aggies are the one that are done if they lose this game with Kansas on deck. Baylor does not "have" to win this game...the Aggies do. That being said, Baylor is a LOCK with 1 win in their final two games.

Baylor's RPI and Strength of schedule are both in the top 40.
 
This might make things a bit more clear for those that think A&M is in a better position than Baylor.

A&M is not a lock for the tourney, but I would say they have a much better chance of making it if they lose this game. Baylor needs this win, or at least to do something in the conf. tourney. I personally think both teams get in the tourney though, but you can't argue both are bubble teams. Baylor does not have more talent than Texas A&M, that I can guarantee you. You have to remember that talent doesn't always equal results. A&M has no leader without Billy G and Acie Law, which is why they've struggled this year. Coming into the season they were suppose to be better than last year with the new kids they recruited. DeAndre Jordon is one of the top rated prospects out there and Kirk, Sloan, Carter and and Jones are all solid players. This team is built on depth, as they rely on someone new stepping up every game. I think they have to get Jordon the ball much more, and that they would be more successful if they did so.

I have no problem with you thinking Baylor has a step up with the committee as far as the tourney goes right now as they are probably dead even (21-8, 20-8), but I feel Texas A&M has more quality wins in beating Texas, killing Ohio St and Alabama, and winning the pre-season NIT. Baylors only quality wins are against Notre Dame and Texas A&M.

You don't consider Baylor's wins against Notre Dame, Kansas State and Texas A&M as quality wins? How can Baylor be considered "dead even" with A&M when the Bears are tied for 3rd in the Big XII and have already beaten the Aggies at home? I'm not so sure anyone would consider Alabama a "quality win" with their 15-14 overall record and 4-10 conference record. Ohio State is debatable as well. Hell, give me Baylor's wins at South Carolina and Winthrop as "quality wins" if you are going to count Alabama.
 
A&M certainly could win this game, but Baylor is currently in much better shape than Texas A&M as far as the NCAA Tournament goes. Look at the RPI and SOS.

I wasn't trying to sell Baylor short, I just think Texas A&M doesn't get enough credit for their wins. They are very inconsistent though and the huge losses to sub par teams will probably haunt the Aggies come Selection Sunday. Alabama was a stretch I agree, and I'd actually take back claiming that as a quality win. It wasn't the win as much as killing them that I was referring to though. Looking back at their schedule I would actually say beating Washington by 14 on a neutral court is more impressive than beating Bama. Kansas St I wouldn't count as a quality win either as they are terrible on the road. Baylor's win over A&M puts them in a slightly better spot right now probably, but if A&M beats them tomorrow I would have to give A&M a better seed. Both will be in the 7-10 range though assuming they both get in.

Here is the deal.  The selection committee looks to how teams FINISH the year when it comes down to two very equal teams.  A&M is finishing the year in horrific fashion.

54-59 home loss to ok state
50-77 away loss to texas
59-65 home loss to nebraska
98-54 home win over Tex Tech
37-64 away loss to Oklahoma
 
Losing by 5 plus at home to NIT teams and getting completely blown out of a gym to ncaa teams in the final month of the year is not a way to finish the season.  This is a must win for both teams unless they want to sit at home with a bottle of pepto bismol on selection sunday, but for arguments sake Baylor should be in ahead of A&M.  Personally, I will bet on a team that is playing better down the stretch.  The other reason for the short line may be because Baylor seemingly plays all of their games vs decent teams down to the final seconds.  I just dont think the way A&M has struggled offensively over the last 3 weeks they will be able to score enough to win this one personally.  Will they surpass their 37, 50 pt outputs of late, yes because of pace of the game, but a good offense leads to a good defense and without Law and a new coach they just cant get in sync.

I think I am going to have to lay off this game, and Ill be kicking myself if Baylor wins but if AM finds a way to win I will be patting myself on the back for not losing on Baylor which looks tempting as hell

I like Baylor to, I liked Ohio last night and thought that was pretty fishy and they lost but every game is different and I think your on the right side.  Vandy line looks pretty fishy to.  Miss St. has already locked up the west, Vandy should easily win by DD.
