It seems like when these big dogs hang around like that, once the fave gets ahead, they keep piling it on and win big. You're almost better off if you fall behind big early and the fave eases up a bit and you get the back door cover kinda like C. Conn St. did against Fordham (much to the dismay of my bankroll).

Had Fordham -15 this afternoon too. 
They were up 17 with a min to go and of course, Conn St. pushes the bet at -15 then Fordham loses the ball in the last single seconds of the game to only have a Conn St. player make a pointless layup when down 15 already.. 
"Schrödinger's bet." A bet that loses when you bet it but wins when you DON'T bet it...
