    (1-0 on posted plays)

University of Colorado @ Colorado State University

I will start out saying I am a CSU alum and have season tickets to the Rams, and I hate everything about Boulder, especially the school there. I have watched all but 1 CSU’s games, and have seen CU play 4 times.

(It wouldn't let me post this much, so had to copy/paste)

This is a huge in-state rivalry game for both schools, but mostly for Colorado State. CSU wants the respect and to be thought of as equals to CU, and CU looks at the school from Fort Collins as “The Little Brother”. That being said, this is “The Game” circled on the Rams schedule.

This is being played in Fort Collins and will be a packed house. However, the way that Moby Arena is set up, it is not the most intimidating home court. The seats are set back, and you don’t have that suffocation of the crowd being on top of you. This is finals week for the students but I still think the students come in full force.

Both teams have started pretty strong, and have exceeded preseason expectations so far. Both teams have beaten teams the are supposed to beat and lost to teams they are probably supposed to lose to. However, the CSU losing to Northern Colorado was a bad loss for the Rams.

The strength of CSU this year is their Defense. Coach Tim Miles has preached this for years, and finally starting to see results.  The team is relatively young, and very inexperienced. They do not really have a “star” on the team, but Guard Dorain Green is by far the most electric player on the team. He takes a lot of dumb shots and can be really sloppy at times though. Andy Ogide and Adam Nigon provide most of the offense for the team, but aren’t good at creating scoring chances for themselves. They are not that big but are tenacious rebounders. The Rams this season go through long scoring droughts at times, which is mostly because of bad decisions and terrible ball movement. They are OK from the FT line, but can also be streaky.  Tim Miles likes to use a bunch of different line-ups through out the game, and trys to find something that works, and then will ride it as long as he can.

CU is a much more veteran savvy team, that return 9 or 10 players from last years squad. CU’s star player is junior guard Cory Higgins, who can pretty much shoot from anywhere and is great at creating his own shots. He has a quick step and gets to the basket and draws fouls. They have another player, Freshman guard, Alec Burks who will be a HUGE star for the Buffs. He has the potential to be an NBA player. He is extremely quick, great court vision, and very accurate. I believe he was Missouri’s Gatorade Player of the Year (Not 100% sure on that).  Coach Buzdelick plays him at Point and Shooting guard, and I have even seen him at the small forward position.  As a team, CU seems to shoot the ball well, and pass really well.  I would say their biggest weakness is their lack of rebounding. Just not a lot of effort going after the ball, after missed shots.

This should be a fun match-up to watch, with Green and Burks matching up.

After looking through the stats and just from watching both teams closely, I am going to have to give the lean to the Buffs (I hate saying this). I think the game will be close throughout, and CSU will be playing on pure emotion, but in the end, CSU’s sloppy play and lack of scoring options is going to catch up with them.  This is a 6 point win for the Buffs.  I will be there rooting on my Rams, and hope I am wrong, but here is my bet.

CU -3 (-105)  ( I know the public is all over this bet, but this is how I see it).

    BOL on whatever you decide!

I saw CU play once this season and i think they are extremely well-coached...one weakness is Defense on the interior....not sure what CSU has inside and would appreciate any feedback - have a feeling that CU has the superior playmakers and should be able to extend 2nd half and pull away for 8-10 pt win

Rams don't have a "True" Center, and rotate, Mame Bocar Ba and Andy Ogide. Ogide is by far the better offensive threat, but CU shouldn't have any troubles with either player.

Since I have the game at 134 points, I guess slight lean on the Under.

You could be right...I am just going off what I have seen THIS year of the 2 teams, and by the stats and numbers from this year. I am playing the match-ups.

Sometimes emotion trumps talent in college hoops, which makes it it such a great sport.

This is the best crowd in 15 years at Moby (since I have been going to games). If CSU plays like they did tonight they win the MWC hands down. It was the most complete game CSU has played in years.

I am SORRY to those that followed me on this bet. Sometimes the better team doesn't win. I think if these teams play 10 times, CSU wins 3 times.

Anyway, sometimes it is great winning, even if you lose.

    Tomorrow is another day!
