There is nothing like starting your weekend off with a nice college ass whooping. Thats whats shaping up here.
Big Spot here for Canisus as they will be trying to avenge a 3 point loss to Fairfield on their home floor tonight. Its all in the numbers and the situation.
The last time these two hooked up Fairfield snuck away with a 3 point victory Canisus had a three point attempt for the win (down 1 at the time) but the shot missed and a long rebound to Fairlfield ened the game with an emphatic dunk as time ran out, to give Fairlfield a 3 point win.
Here is what that final socre doesn't tell us. In that game Canisus managed to get 11 more FG attempts then Fairfield and out rebounded them 35-30. Canisus even held Fairfield to 16 of 46 shooting from the fiedl. The only reason this game was even close (and not a Canisus runaway victory) was because Fairfield was awarded 34 foul shots in the game of which they connected on 27. Fairfield led at the half by 31-28, but 16 of thier 31 points came from foul shots. In comaprison, the visiting Cansisus got to the line 11 times on the whole game.
There is only one reason that the line is where it is now. Its because ESPN U will be televising the game. Because its the only early non-ivy game televised any and all college hoop wagers that can be watched on tv by the majority f the public will be on this game. The line has to be here based on the perception by the public derived from the teams overall SU records. Fairlfield 14-9 SU and Canisus 7-15 and the fact that Fairfield won the first meeting.
Other then that, ther is no reson. in fact, Fairfield will be missing two starters from that game Hahn and Johnson. The only threat they will have is Nero, who has pretty much carried them against two weak opponents since Fairfield's injury/season meltdown.
It is true looking at Canisus 3 consecutive Su losses that it would be tough to bite on them as a favorite. But consider that Canisus hasn't had a home game in 18 days. The 3 losses were all on the road and against superior opponents @ Niagara (17-6), @ Sienna (18-5) and @ Rider 12-9. Tonight they will not have the difficulty.
Canisus uses ESPN to fill the house and fuel the revenge victory for a game they should have won SU the first tim.

Funny I saw people calling this a look ahead game...when this conference is on ESPN (aka..the best recruiting tool and exposure these guys will get all year) that anyone could look ahead.

With the worst teams winning straight up on their homecourt lately (William&Mary, whoever N'Eastern played last) I'm on Canisius tonight!! Agree w/your write-up too and Han out hurts them a lot and Canisius favored in this game is no surprise!!

Nice input. I didn t even look at this game looked like pure garbage on the surface. Thanks for digging in the trash. I believe you may have talked me into it. (small of course).
Didn t know it was on ESPN either. that in its self is worth a unit.

good write up, but i too am going the other way on this one. inferior opponents? fairfield's last couple of wins are against the core of the conference inferior or otherwise. i enjoy saying i took canisius griffins around the water cooler when they win, but tonight i think fairfield hangs another loss on the griffins.
