After opening the season with an 83-66 win in new head coach Dave Rice's first career game with only seven scholarship players available, the UNLV men's basketball team will return closer to full strength as it hosts intrastate-rival Nevada, Reno, on Monday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center
Here we go with my first Rebel 'Report. I attended last year's game at Nevada and was burned by the back door cover as Nevada hit 3 three pointers in the last 2 minutes.....
Rebel star guard and local Las Vegas product is hyped for this game, especially after watching from the bench against something called Grand Canyon in the opener......
UNLV and Reno are rivals. For me, and the people I was around growing up, there’s always been a rivalry in everything (with Reno),” said Marshall, who attended Mojave High and has the local 702 area code tattooed on his upper arm. “For me, this game means something.” Stanback will also be back to give the Rebels some real fire power. Nevada is coming off a very lack luster performance losing to Missouri State.....
Kevin Panzer scored 10 points to lead the Wolf Pack (0-1), which shot 13 of 50 from the field, including 5 of 25 from 3-point range.
The Bears used a 27-8 run over the first 10 minutes of the second half to put the game away. Nevada had only one field goal during the stretch.........
The 2011-12 University of Nevada men’s basketball
team returns all five starters and 11 letterwinners
for third-year head coach David Carter.
Last year’s team was built around youth as eight
players put on the Nevada uniform for the first
time. The Wolf Pack went 13-19 overall and tied for
fifth in the Western Athletic Conference with a
mark of 8-8.
The returning starters were the top five scorers
on last year’s team, with four players averaging at
least 12.3 points per game. In all, 91 percent of
the Pack’s offense from last season is back this
year.
I see the Rebels coming out strong in front of the home crowd. Nevada will not be ready for the crowd and the pressure of the Rebel guards. I would consider playing Rebel in the first half. I would be weary of taking the -12.5 for fear of Rebels missing shots and letting Nevada back under 10 points. I am aware that the over is a popular play. Rebels missed shots and Nevada jitters will keep the total under.........UNLV- Nevada Under 143.5
