Utah Tech hasn't played in 11 days, travels to Miami, for a noon local start. FIUs defense gets plenty of stops, allowing their fairly anemic offense to do enough to cover the number. Tech also doesn't play another game for another week after this, while FIU needs today as a dress rehearsal for conference play kicking off next later this week.
Western Michigan +27
Dwayne Stephens is a Tom Izzo disciple, and one of his closest friends. Western is not a good basketball team, but Sparty has Big10 play starting next with Ohio St, so Izzo should show a little more mercy towards his good buddy, and start rotating in #2s, sooner than normal, and the Broncs keep it under 25 points.
Rutgers -11.5
Both the Knights and Columbia kick off their full conference play next, so focus shouldn't be an issue for either side, but this is a LARGE step up in competition for the Lions. The best team they've played/beaten was Villanova and that was back in early November, when Nova wasn't who they are today.
That's all for the games that start before 6pm CST. I'll be back in a bit for night plays.

The Wildcats have been one of the more disappointing teams in America thus far for me, but this matchup vs Cincy, and their desperation spot, make it attractive. Losers of 3 straight, KSU has to look at the schedule and see they need to win 2 of the next 3, or it could get really ugly really quick in Manhattan. The strength of the BearCats D lies on the interior, but KSt likes to open the lane and brings their bigs outside, so we will see who wins that chess match. Bramlage is no easy place to go into and play, and it will be the toughest environment to date for the BearCats. I think K St wins, but I'll take the extra points to be sure.
Houston/Oklahoma St Under 136.5
Houstons defense is as good as they come, but their offense isn't there. It's kinda been that way in years past at points, but they had an All American guard they could turn to (Shead/Sasser), when they needed a bucket, and they don't have that guy anymore. With this being their first road test, I don't trust them to score like they'd want to, but defense travels. First to 65 wins.
Colorado +9.5
Iowa St is the best team in the country for my money right now (Auburn 1A), but opening up conference play in the altitude won't be a lot of fun. These two teams met in Maui earlier this year, and the Cyclones had no troubles winning by 28. I can't imagine the Buffs let them come into their home and do the same thing. A very spirited effort should be expected, and I think Colorado gives Iowa St a scare.
San Francisco -5
Quick turnarounds for both teams after playing on Saturday, and although it isn't a crazy travel spot as far as distance, San Fran is a machine at home, and this is only the third away gym Santa Clara is playing in. The Dons defense ends up being the difference maker. WCC should be a hell of a fun league to follow this year.
Cal Baptist +3.5
Irvine just had their worst performance of the year in a terrible loss to Duquesne. Then they had 10 days off to think about it. I always found it easier to get over a bad loss, when we were able to play again quickly afterwards. Cal-Baptist just played Saturday and this is their last game before conference play. I think Irvine shows rust, and the crowd keeps the Lancers energized for their biggest home game of the year.
