Oklahoma (#4) travels back to the "hell hole" tonight for the inner state rivalry game versus Oklahoma State (aka..Bedlam)
It has been almost a year since the available space on the bulletin board in Oklahoma State's locker room was reduced by the comments of Oklahoma's Head Coach Jeff Capel, who accidentally was caught on camera yelling to his team to “Hurry up and take a shower and get the hell out of this hell-hole” after beating Oklahoma State in Stillwater last season.
Those of you familiar with my betting ideology know that I love situations where ranked teams with great SU records take to the road...especially whn the road team has a sold out unrulry crowd. I also like when the road foe will be the toughest team that the ranked opponent has faced on the road to date. (I consider Oklahoma State tougher the Arkansas, where Oklahoma lost SU, BTW) These situations are extaordinarily difficult for college kids to get focused, especially when the home team has a chance at winning and knows it. I am especially interested in tonights game given Oklahoma's historical trouble getting up for road games and Monday Night games (matters are made way worse when the teams they are playing are good teams.) The Sooners are 17-35-2 ATS in their last 54 road games, 18-38-2 ATS in their last 58 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600, 18-40-2 ATS in their last 60 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and on Monday are 3-7-1 ATSin their last 11 Monday games.
In addition to revenge tonight Oklahoma State brings a 9-1 SU home reocrd (the only loss coming 97-95 to Missouri) this is far above the .600 at home mark.
I think Oklahoma's number one ATS problem is at the free throw line where their brains seem to turn to jello on the road. They shoot 67% from the line on the season but only 55% on the road.On the flip side Oklahoma State is money from the charity stripe at home improving from 72% overall to one of the tops in the nation at 78% at home. A few extrapoints in a pick'em type sitation is a monster. Also consider Oklahoma State in nailing 3 pointers at a 41% clip at home on the season averaging 10-24 per game from beyond the arc (ranked 2nd in the nation in this catagory). OKSU also is ranked #4 in overall scoring at 85 points per game.
Tonight the Sooners exit the top 10 and come back to earth after getting torched by an OKSU team I think will go wire to wire.
Oklahoma State +3 (wait for the 3, it will come)
