At -110 each play, up approximately 81 units. I don't know how you do it Indie, but that is incredible.

That's not right

Working with your assumption of 1 Unit per play at -110

707 Won = +707 units

561 Lost = -617 units (561 x 1.10)

That's +90 units right there


And I'm sure he bets a lot more than 1 unit per play.

I'm also pretty sure he bets most or all of his games at -105 reduced juice (or even less sometimes) which every major book offers on the day of games.

So he's probably up at least double or triple that number of units.

After further thought, 56% with that amount of plays is solid! Just think he could be producing 60%+ with less picks. JMHO.   peace

My math was based on wagering 1 unit, not wagering to win 1 unit. Perhaps that's not how most view the topic (I have no idea). Also, I wasn't insinuating how much Indie is up. Just wanted to provide a GENERAL idea of what capping ~56% at such a high volume produces. It's silly to speculate on how many "units" someone might be up. Hypothetically, a bettor might consider 1 unit $10 but a standard wager is actually $100. Thus, when handicapping at a high percentage, the number of units is going to much higher. With the 1 unit calculation, anyone reading can get any idea of how much he/she could have profited based on his/her specific bankroll management strategy. Not that simple for % of bankroll bettors, but still.

I understand what you are saying - it's one of the more common "traditional" thoughts on betting.  However, if you have followed Indie - and others like him over the years - you would see that the large number of picks (yes, despite the juice on losses) is actually beneficial to spreading the risk in a system that is based on betting broadly across the board.

 

In the financial investment world, you see this in Mutual Fund and Bond investing.  You know that some are going to be stinkers...you just try to have a selection criteria that gives you an overall profit with a "basket" of stocks and/or bonds.  Those that have tried to "select" the winners (i.e. making fewer "bets") find themselves subject to huge swings in portfolios that can damage their "bankroll".

 

This is Indie's style - and it is remarkably profitable.  You may want to look for "Lower volume" cappers - which you can find in CoversCapReport's excellent threads.

 

To put it another way...if you want a running QB - don't pick Brady or Ryan for your team!
